Description
The Academic Advising Coach reports directly to the Director- Academic Success Center. Academic advising Coaches coordinate collect sending and distributing early warning grade alerts attendance reports and midterm grade reports; establish ongoing cradle-to-grave retention and reclamation programs prepare bimonthly reports on individual and combined caseload performance provide advising to all program participants and conduct SASC orientation workshops for college faculty staff and students. Academic Advising Coaches complete needs assessments and graduation plans assess educational social tutoring and career-related needs conduct individual and group counseling sessions maintain student records and assist with career explorations and goal setting. Academic Advising Coaches also assist with advising selecting college majors course scheduling and organizing campus visits to 4-year institutions. Academic Advising Coaches also facilitate financial aid scholarship and college application workshops.
Examples of Duties
Essential Duties
1. Provide critical face-to-face assistance with financial aid applications preparing and monitoring graduation plans.
2. Offer linkages to mentors internships part-time employment transportation assistance student activities wellness and counseling services.
3. Conduct individual and group counseling sessions to address educational social tutoring and career-related needs.
4. Assist students with selecting college majors course scheduling and organizing campus visits to 4-year institutions.
5. Address psychological emotional and mental health issues by connecting students with specialized mental health professionals through soft handoffs and tracking supported measures.
6. Ensure services meet reasonable standards of quality and lead to significant life outcomes for students.
7. Handle administration crisis management student empowerment individual advocacy and system advocacy.
8. Work closely with faculty advisors to provide intrusive advising and maintain regular contact with students.
9. Coordinate and distribute early warning grade alerts attendance reports and midterm grade reports.
10. Create and facilitate financial aid scholarship and college application workshops.
11. Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records.
12. Complete needs assessments and graduation plans for students.
Planning

15. Implement new strategies and tools to enhance student engagement and success.
16. Prepare and submit regular reports on student progress and program effectiveness.
17. Plan and facilitate Academic Success Center (ASC) orientation workshops for college faculty staff and students.
Organizing
18. Apply a caseload management model to connect students with challenges to a system of services and supports.
19. Work collaboratively with the Vice President of Academic/Student Affairs Dean of Academic Affairs Dean of Student Affairs to implement other strategies that intertwine with the project of the Academic Success Center and by extension the college.
20. Organize and participate in community events to promote the Academic Success Center and its services.
Directing
21. Engage in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay updated on best practices in student advising counseling and support services.
22. Attend relevant training sessions workshops and conferences to enhance skills and knowledge in academic advising and student support.
23. Collaborate with faculty staff and external partners to enhance support services for students.
24. Encourage participation in wellness and counseling services to support overall well-being.
Controlling
25. Continuously assess and improve advising practices and support services to meet the evolving needs of students.
26. Monitor and track supported measures in mental health services.
Public Relations
27. Build relationships with community organizations to provide additional support and resources for students.
28. Network with professionals in the field to share knowledge and resources.
Other
student engagement in college activities clubs and organizations.
Minimum/Required Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
- Associates degree in Education Human Services or a related field required.
PreferredQualifications:
Education:- Bachelors degree in Education Counseling Social Work or a related field required.
Experience:- At least 2 years of experience in academic advising counseling or student support services.
- Experience working with high-risk student populations preferred.
