At Zappos/Shopbop Tech were on a mission to deliver unparalleled shopping experiences to our customers. Were seeking a Software Development Engineer III (SDE3) to join our Discovery Team the heart of the customer journey across our premium fashion platforms. As an SDE3 you will help lead software development for the core customer journey on and - from Homepage to checkout: Search Search Results Homepage Ads Widgets Recommendations and much more. Key job responsibilities
- Lead and Innovate: Drive the development and maintenance of Java-based applications leveraging AWS services (ECS SQS S3 DynamoDB). Your work will ensure our architecture supports scalable maintainable and high-quality solutions.
- Collaborate for Success: Work hand-in-hand with product managers UX designers and engineers. Your role will be pivotal in creating optimal customer experiences steering technology choices and ensuring the architectural integrity of our systems.
- Mentor and Elevate: Guide junior developers raising the coding standards bar and providing constructive feedback. Your expertise will help mold the next generation of engineers.
- Navigate Ambiguity: Tackle complex problems without a predefined technology strategy. Youll balance business needs with technical solutions ensuring scalability and future growth.
- Champion Best Practices: Your code will not only solve problems efficiently but also serve as a benchmark for quality and best practices within the team.
- Continuous Learning and Leadership: As a key influencer in team strategy and goals youll foster an environment of growth inclusivity and open dialogue.

The Shopbop/Zappos Discovery Tech team owns the core backend services that power top-of-funnel product discovery across our platforms. Some of the services we own include: Content Service (manually scheduled content) Search API & Filters Recommendations Ads Lists and more. We partner closely with data scientists to launch new ranking algorithms in Search.

- 5 years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5 years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
- 5 years of leading design or architecture (design patterns reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience as a mentor tech lead or leading an engineering team
- Bachelors degree
- 5 years of full software development life cycle including coding standards code reviews source control management build processes testing and operations experience

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience qualifications and location.
