Position: Criminal Justice Adjunct Instructor

Location: Athens Campus

Department: Division of Life Sciences & Public Safety

Reports to: Program Chair for the Criminal Justice Program and Divisional Academic Dean

Salary/Benefits: Salary is commensurate with education and experience. No State of the Georgia benefits.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate-level courses within the Criminal Justice program including but not limited to introduction to Criminal Justice Criminal Law Criminology Corrections Principles of Law Enforcement and Ethics in Criminal Justice.
  • Develop deliver and assess instruction that aligns with the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) curriculum standards and Athens Technical College academic policies.
  • Engage students in meaningful learning experiences using a variety of instructional delivery methods including face-to-face hybrid and online environments.
  • Maintain accurate up-to-date student records assessments and grades in accordance with college and accreditation requirements.
  • Incorporate ethical decision-making inclusive practices and critical analysis of contemporary issues in criminal justice.
  • Demonstrate commitment to continuous professional development in both the discipline and instructional methods.
  • Participate in adjunct faculty meetings program-level assessment activities and student retention initiatives as requested.
  • Utilize effective communication and interpersonal skills to promote a supportive student-centered learning environment.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in Criminal Justice Criminology Law or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution; or a Masters degree in another field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in criminal justice or related coursework.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the U.S. criminal justice system including law enforcement courts or corrections.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills and evidence of commitment to student learning and success.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching experience at a technical or community college.
  • Professional experience in criminal justice fields such as policing legal services corrections or forensic investigation.
  • Experience with online learning platforms (e.g. Blackboard D2L or similar) and technology-enhanced instruction.
