Description: The Elementary STEAM teacher is responsible for developing and implementing a multi-disciplinary curriculum that integrates Science Technology Engineering Arts and Mathematics. The primary goal is to foster a maker mindset by encouraging students to think critically solve complex problems and engage in hands-on project-based learning. This teacher will manage the schools STEAM lab or Makerspace and collaborate with classroom teachers to enhance core curriculum through STEAM : The lists below are not ranked in order of importanceEssential Duties and Responsibilities: Curriculum Development: Design and deliver engaging age-appropriate STEAM lessons aligned with state and national standards (e.g. NGSS ISTE) Project-Based Learning (PBL): Facilitate hands-on projects that require students to use the Engineering Design Process (Ask Imagine Plan Create Improve) Technology Integration: Instruct students in the use of educational technology including coding robotics 3D printing digital storytelling and basic circuitry Artistic Integration: Ensure the Arts are meaningfully woven into STEM projects to encourage creativity design thinking and aesthetic expression Inquiry-Based Instruction: Move beyond rote memorization to foster an environment where student questions drive the learning process Lab Management: Oversee the organization inventory and safety of STEAM lab materials (e.g. consumable supplies robots tools) Collaborative Planning: Act as a resource for grade-level teachers helping them find ways to integrate STEAM concepts into their literacy and social studies blocks Assessment: Use authentic assessment methods (portfolios presentations rubrics) to evaluate student growth in both technical skills and soft skills like collaboration and persistence Ensure safety of students and staff Teach and evaluate students using sound instructional practices Effectively manage the classroom and individual student behavior to maintain a good learning environment disciplining students when necessary Prepare clear and timely lesson plans Provide guidance to students which will promote their welfare and their proper educational development Attend parent/teacher conferences Make provisions for being available to students and parents for educationally related purposes before and after the instructional day Maintain and improve professional competence by attending professional growth seminars workshops etc. Observe ethics of the teaching profession Assist the administration in implementing all procedures and rules governing student life and conduct Notify parents if student is not meeting classroom goals Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities Demonstrate knowledge of subject matter and present clear complete and accurate explanations utilizing a variety of instructional techniques and media suitable to the level of learners Act as teacher facilitator and information source in subject area specialty Teach new concepts and facilitate different activities enabling students to learn in different ways Make contacts with the public with tact and diplomacy Maintain respect at all times for confidential information e.g. home and discipline situations medical background and family history Interact in a positive manner with staff students and parents Attend meetings and in-services as required Refer attendance health and psychological emotional problems to Principal and/or Guidance Counselor Attend professional growth seminars workshops etc. to keep current on relevant issues Promote good public relations by personal appearance attitude and conversation Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of studentsRequired Skills and Qualifications: Education: Bachelors degree in Elementary Education Science Math or a related field Certification: Valid State Teaching License (Elementary or Subject-Specific) Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with elementary-level STEAM tools (e.g. Scratch Blockly LEGO Education Dash & Dot Tinkercad or Ozobots) Adaptability: Ability to manage a classroom environment that is often loud messy and centered on trial-and-error Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with students parents and colleagues Experience teaching in a Makerspace or STEAM Lab environment Advanced degree or certification in Educational Technology or STEM Education Experience with 1:1 iPad or Chromebook environmentsRequired Skills and Abilities: Must be able to lift and move heavy equipment and supplies Ability to stand for long periods and move throughout the lab to assist students with hands-on buildsOther Duties and Responsibilities: Work closely with administrators as part of development teams to discuss and implement new practices such as team teaching special projects etc. Serve as a role model for students Assist in the selection of textbooks equipment and other instructional materials Serve on committees and co-curricular activities as agreed
