Job Summary

Position Description

The City of Walnut Creek is seeking to fill up to two (2) full-time Street Maintenance Worker positions in the Public Works Maintenance Operations Division. The City will fill these openings at either a Street Maintenance or General Maintenance level depending on the needs of the department and the qualifications and experience of the candidate selected.

The City is advertising two (2) separate recruitments in order to fill these openings. Candidates applying to this job opportunity will be considered for Street Maintenance Worker. Candidates who are interested in both the Street Maintenance Worker and General Maintenance Worker opportunities are able to apply to both recruitments separately if their work experience meets the requirements listed in the Qualification Guidelines section of the respective announcement.

Salary

The current salary range for a Street Maintenance Worker is $77411 to $93296 annually. Placement in the position and range will depend on qualifications.

Representative Duties

About the Position

The Street Maintenance Worker is on a team consisting of three crews: Paving Concrete and Clean Water. Under general supervision they perform journey-level work in the maintenance repair construction street sweeping and cleaning of City streets curbs gutters storm drains rights-of-way and similar facilities.

Examples of some responsibilities are: crack sealing and asphalt patch repairs; setting out traffic control devices and road closures and directing traffic at work sites; grading base rock; repairing damaged sections of curbs and sidewalks; cleaning storm drains; operating dump trucks jackhammers backhoes asphalt rollers Hydro vacs and other equipment used in street and drainage maintenance.

This position requires significant physical effort including heavy lifting and involves working outdoors in all weather conditions with exposure to hazards involved with working around traffic and heavy equipment.

Qualifications Guidelines

Education

Graduation from high school.


Experience

A minimum of two (2) years of full-time experience in street construction maintenance or repair work.


Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the knowledge skills and abilities listed in the Job Classificationhereis qualifying.


Special Requirements

  • Possession of or ability to obtain prior to employment a valid Class C California Drivers License and a good driving record is required.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain during the probationary period a valid Class A California Drivers License.
  • Other certifications which might be required to be obtained while on the job include and are not limited to: confined space entry certification safety in work zones and flagging certification and forklift certification.
  • Street Maintenance Workers are required to perform after-hours emergency work call-outs and weekend work as needed.
