DescriptionSummary
The Senior Estimator will create project specifications by accurately projecting the number of materials equipment and man-hours that must be utilized to complete a given project. This role will work closely with the Estimating Team to create a competitive project budget that is presented to clients. The Senior Estimator will ensure accurate communication of changes are priced and acknowledged. The Senior Estimator will have extensive knowledge and experience within the drywall/steel stud framing industry.
Essential Functions
Preconstruction/Estimating
- Manage the review of the weekly bid list to ensure the team is bidding on the right opportunities and The Berg Groups preferred clients are receiving priority on bid activity.
- Reviews project plans and specifications to get comfortable with the work and begin the development of an estimate (Price materials labor equipment and other expenses to be included in the project budget for submittal).
- Accurately take-off of blueprints to include the scope necessary to be competitive and adhere to company guidelines.
- Review scope of work and instructions to bidders to ensure our proposals are complete and all risk is addressed before submitting the proposal.
- Adheres to the bid review process and makes necessary edits to bids as needed.
- Work with the Chief Estimator and Director of Estimating on bid margins and supports recommendation or request to adjust where applicable.
Estimating Team Training & Development
- Actively coach develop share knowledge and mentor project team members to build capability morale and provide growth opportunities within Berg.
- Establish team roles and responsibilities related to owned project portfolio create accountability and foster a positive working environment.
Sales
- Generate new clients.
- Participate in the prioritization of clients as a team.
- Continue the development of existing client base strengthening long-term relationships and development of opportunities for optimum margin of sales through partnering and negotiated services.
- Maintain and develop relationships with subcontractors and vendors utilized by Berg.
Strategic Vision
- Participates in the development and execution of Bergs strategic and business plan including achievement of key objectives.
- Establish and develops relationships with employees including the company management team as well as external partners and stakeholders.
- Support and continuous improvement of Bergs high-performance culture.
- Provide visionary leadership for new ideas and approaches and humbly welcomes ideas to innovate and better Berg from all levels of the organization.
Leadership
- Develop trust and maintain a collaborative and supportive leadership presence with your Project Management team.
- Participate in and support recruitment hiring onboarding efforts as appropriate to develop an exceptional regional team.
- Foster a collaborative culture that enhances employee satisfaction engagement and results-orientation while encouraging innovation and creativity.
- Provide time for regular and effective 1 on 1 meetings with all direct reports.
- Coach mentor and collaborate with direct reports regularly.
- Establishes and achieves specific measurable and obtainable objectives that support Bergs overall growth and profitability objectives while creating client employee and company success.
QualificationsExperience and Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- A high degree of financial acumen
- Proven ability to communicate openly and have important conversations with internal and external clients
- Strong organizational skills; attention to detail
- Basic presentation skills to represent information and updates in a group setting
- Ability to read and comprehend complex construction documents i.e. blueprints
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment
- Strong work ethic
- Problem-solving mindset
- Technology savvy
- Strong computer skills; proficient in MS Excel MS Word and MS Outlook
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical Degree Bachelors degree or currently pursuing a degree in Construction Management or similar
- 4-8 years of related experience in commercial construction
- Base knowledge of document editing software i.e. BlueBeam Adobe Acrobat Plan Grid Plexxis
- Industry knowledge in Drywall Steel Stud Metal Framing Paint or other product/service that is core to Bergs offerings
Sedentary Work
- Sedentary work involves lifting no more than 10 - 15 pounds at a time and occasionally lifting or carrying.
- Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties.
- Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required occasionally and other sedentary criteria are met.
Travel
- Up to 20% primarily in their designated Market.
- Ability to complete regular day travel for site visits and client meetings.
