Our Track Engineering department within the Engineering & Safety Division is seeking a Track Engineering Specialist to join our collaborative team. Reporting to the Assistant Manager Engineering Track The role supports technical review and development of design drawings to ensure the safe and reliable delivery of Capital and State of Good Repair contracts. The role further supports both heavy rail and light transit systems with development of track standards for design construction and maintenance.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in track engineering to ensure that the design construction and maintenance of track infrastructure are safe reliable and compliant with applicable standards and industry best practices.
- Provide technical expertise and assurance by reviewing track designs and Work Plan Methodologies (WPMs) to ensure conformance with Metrolinx and industry standards identify deviations and recommend corrective actions.
- Design track alignments profiles and associated grading including corridor modeling using Autodesk Civil 3D in accordance with Metrolinx Track Standards (MTS) AREMA guidelines and other relevant standards.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of track technical standards standard plans and material specifications in collaboration with Track Maintenance Delivery internal stakeholders external partners and regulators.
- Participate in field audits and inspections including pre-design condition assessments and in-service inspections to validate design assumptions and confirm track readiness for service.
- Identify and mitigate maintenance and safety risks arising from design or construction activities through proactive engineering review and coordination.
- Stay current with industry trends regulatory requirements and emerging technologies to ensure continuous improvement in track engineering practices and innovation in infrastructure delivery.
- University Degree in Civil Engineering or any combination of education training and experience deemed equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience related to railway passenger heavy or light rail transit systems.
- Valid Professional Engineer (.) license in the province of Ontario or ability to obtain . will be considered an asset.
- Knowledge of Industry Track Standards and ability to interpret and explain requirements to various internal and external parties.
- Valid non-probationary G Class Province of Ontario drivers licence.
- Strong problem solving and influencing skills to establish effective working relationships negotiate and collaborate with a variety of stakeholders both internal and external to the organization along with the ability to gain cooperation from individuals not under direct authority.
- Experience in track and civil design using software using Autodesk software (AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D) to create and update drawings and standard plans will be considered an asset.
- Technical writing skills and good presentation skills.
