General Statement of Volunteer Position
Volunteers play a vital role in transforming our program and the experience of our campers. The volunteers will be tasked with assisting with the camp and providing classroom support for the lead instructors for the Verizon Innovative Learning (VIL) STEM Achievers program. The VIL STEM Achievers program is a STEM enrichment program for students in grades 6-8. The program begins with a summer immersion experience and then offers one full workshop day in the fall and one in the spring for additional STEM learning.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school student currently in the 9th 10th 11th or 12 grade
Desire and ability to work with middle students in a STEM camp setting
Description of Duties and Tasks
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Provide classroom support for the lead instructors
Demonstrate leadership by participating in program activities to help create a safe and fun environment
Encourage respect for personal property camp equipment and campus facilities
Commit to and uphold all camp rules listed in the VILSA Student Code of Conduct
Work with instructors program directors or other staff to meet the needs of the camp and the students
Attend program meetings and trainings as assigned
Knowledge
Intermediate computer skills

Maintaining an established work schedule.
Maintaining confidentiality of students and other work-related information.
Effectively using interpersonal and communications skills including tact patience diplomacy sensitivity and flexibility as it relates to working with students from varied socioeconomic backgrounds and learning styles.

Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with people of multicultural backgrounds including students instructors and staff.
