As part of a small passionate and accomplished team of experts you will be responsible for identifying materials and processes to increase manufacturability of thruster products in support of multiple Blue Origin programs. Youll be expected to develop these materials and processes and qualify them for use on production hardware ensuring all requirements are met. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Evaluate and select materials and processes for usage in liquid rocket engines taking into consideration mechanical properties thermal properties and environmental factors.
• Collaborate with design analysis and manufacturing teams to implement materials and processes requirements.
• Provide technical rationale related to use repair or scrap non-conforming hardware based on a fundamental understanding of material properties processing parameters and design intent.
• Identify and implement robust manufacturing technologies to drive improved technical performance and/or manufacturing rate of liquid rocket engines.
• Interpret production drawings systematically understanding the need for materials and processes to meet established engine and vehicle requirements.
• Perform development and qualification testing for materials and processes to ensure performance under engine induced and external environmental requirements.
• Identify and implement process improvements to lower cost and production time while maintaining technical requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:

• 2 years directly related materials and processes experience (level commensurate on experience).
• Minimum B.S. in Material Science Engineering Mechanical Engineering Weld Engineering or related field.
• Experience working with nickel-based alloys copper-based alloys stainless steels and/or other materials common in aerospace manufacturing.
• Proven experience developing and executing test plans for analysis and qualification of components materials and processes.
• Familiarity with standard methods of manufacturing such as forming joining machining precision cleaning and mechanical fastening.
• Ability to interpret and understand all aspects of engineering drawings including GD&T flag notes and critical features.
• Understanding of quality management system used in the aerospace industry or for similarly critical hardware.

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience in the production manufacturing and assembly of rocket propulsion combustion devices (heat exchangers injectors nozzles) valve hardware and/or other hardware with tight tolerances and high complexity.
• Experience with definition and qualification of joining processes such as Laser Welding Electron Beam Welding GTAW and Furnace Brazing.
• Experience with weld and braze quality standards and inspection methods (radiography ultrasonic testing penetrant testing).
• Experience with materials characterization and failure/forensic analysis including but not limited to SEM/EDS XRF FTIR and Metallography.
• Experience with cryogenic fluids including oxygen compatibility and hydrogen compatibility.
• Demonstrated experience (M&P signatory authority) on a flight production program.
• Experience transitioning and verifying materials and processes from development to production.
