Operates and maintains the Citys water and wastewater utility systems including plant equipment lift stations and electrical components. This role requires technical expertise in safety procedures and system service to ensure efficient operations. Candidates must participate in an on-call rotation respond to after-hours emergencies and comply with DOT random drug and alcohol testing requirements.
Essential Duties & Required Qualifications
- Work schedule is Monday Thursday 6:30 am to 4:00 pm and Friday 6:30 am to 10:30 am. Work schedule is subject to change.
- Installs troubleshoots repairs tests and maintains emergency generators power distribution systems and various electrical systems components and equipment to ensure proper operation.
- Identifies defective equipment and repairs or replaces equipment.
- Inspect repairs and maintains electronic devices.
- Responds to emergency service calls for electrical services or repairs.
- Assists other trades workers in troubleshooting facility problems.
- Determines the need for electrical system parts and supplies; orders and maintains adequate stock levels.
- Performs work in accordance with local and national electrical codes and regulations.
- Cleans maintains tools and equipment. Loads and unloads trucks.
- Reviews blueprints and specifications; ensures drawings and specifications will function as designed in environment intended for use.
- Determines the cost and type of materials needed for electrical projects.
- The ability to perform on-call duties by responding to water or wastewater facilities/equipment failures 24/7; repair issues at night or during storm events where electrical and mechanical failure can occur.
- Required Education and Experience:
- High School diploma or GED.
- Minimum 4 years of related work experience or on the job training as an Apprentice Electrician Journeyman Electrician or Electrician.
- Required Certificates and Licenses:
- Valid Texas Drivers License or equivalent from any US state (Approximately 75% of time driving a company vehicle).
- Journeyman Electrician License through TDLR or equivalent.
- Must have a basic first aid certificate or must obtain one within 6 months of the hire date and must maintain appropriate licenses and certificates.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- TCEQ Class I Collection License and/or a TCEQ D Water License
- Five or more years of related work experience or on the job training as an Apprentice Electrician Journeyman Electrician or Electrician.
- Associates degree or higher in a related field.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to follow detailed verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Ability to communicate with other employees and the general public in a courteous and diplomatic manner.
- Ability to work hours other than the regular daytime schedule such as shift work on call or emergency response situations (i.e. early-mornings afternoons evenings and late-nights shifts weekends).
- Must be able to wear city provided uniform and city issued personal protective equipment steel-toed leather boots gloves eye protection head protection safety vest and ear protection.
- Workers must be in compliance with safety procedures and usage of safety equipment.
- Workers must be able to follow safety procedures and usage of safety equipment to ensure personal public and personnel safety.
- Skill in operating assigned equipment tools and vehicles safely.
- Possess basic knowledge in the operation and maintenance of vehicles equipment heavy (vehicular) construction equipment pumps and equipment used in and around water and wastewater systems. Possess familiarity with hand and power tools and equipment commonly used in the maintenance of vehicles equipment structures and buildings.
Physical Demands & Additional Information
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand walk sit use hands to handle and feel items reach with hands and arms climb or balance stoop kneel talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
