HeartShare is building a modern secure AI-ready data platform to support people with developmental disabilities children and families in foster care and individuals receiving mental health services. We are seeking a Data Engineer to own data pipelines models and analytics readiness across our Microsoft Azure and Fabric environment. This role is about making data usable trustworthy and scalable.
Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions of Position:
Data Pipeline & Integration Ownership
Design build and maintain reliable data pipelines into the Microsoft Fabric lakehouse from: EHR systems (e.g. PrecisionCare) HRIS (Paycom) Microsoft Onedrive Files Finance systems (NetSuite)
Program-level operational systems
Partner with IT and vendors on ingestion patterns APIs and refresh schedules
Ensure pipelines are documented monitored and resilient to upstream change
Data Modeling & Analytics Enablement
Design and maintain clean analytics-ready data models
Build and manage:
Curated lakehouse tables
Power BI semantic models
Enable self-service analytics while respecting role-based access patterns defined by governance partners
Reduce reliance on manual extracts and shadow spreadsheets
Data Quality & Reliability
Implement data quality checks (completeness validity timeliness)
Monitor pipeline health and resolve issues proactively
Partner with program teams to clarify definitions and resolve discrepancies
Build trust in metrics such as service utilization program and individual health outcomes used by leadership funders and regulators
AI & Advanced Analytics Readiness
Prepare data for AI and advanced analytics use cases including:
NLP-based documentation support
Predictive analytics (health employment permanency outcomes)
Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures (in collaboration with Data Scientist)
Ensure datasets are well-structured documented and versioned
Support experimentation without creating one-off or ungoverned pipelines
Collaboration & Platform Stewardship
Work closely with: SVP of Data & Innovation on roadmap and priorities
Data Scientist on feature engineering and production pipelines
VP of IT on system integrations and platform alignment
Security and governance vendors to ensure compliance-by-design
Contribute to documentation runbooks and onboarding materials
Help transition from vendor-led build to sustainable internal ownership
5 years of experience as a Data Engineer or Analytics Engineer
Strong SQL skills and experience with data modeling
Hands-on experience with cloud-based data platforms (Azure preferred)
Experience building production data pipelines
Comfort working with sensitive or regulated data environments
Ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Microsoft Fabric or Synapse
Power BI semantic modeling experience
Experience supporting analytics and machine learning teams
Familiarity with healthcare human services education or public sector data
Experience working in organizations transitioning from vendor-led builds to internal ownership
