Position Summary
The principal serves as the instructional and operational leader of the assigned school building and is responsible for fostering a safe inclusive and high-performing learning environment. This position provides leadership for instructional programs student services staff supervision and building operations while ensuring compliance with District policies state regulations and educational standards.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Instructional Leadership
- Provide leadership for curriculum implementation instructional practices and assessment aligned with District goals and State standards.
- Support continuous improvement through data-informed decision-making.
- Promote professional growth and instructional effectiveness of staff.
Staff Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise evaluate and support certified and support staff in accordance with District procedures.
- Foster a positive school culture focused on collaboration accountability and professional excellence.
- Participate in staff hiring assignment and disciplinary processes.
Student Services & School Climate
- Ensure a safe orderly and supportive school environment for students and staff.
- Support implementation of student of student behavior expectations and discipline procedures.
- Collaborate with staff to address academic behavioral and social-emotional needs.
Operations & Compliance
- Oversee daily building operations including safety procedures emergency preparedness and facility use.
- Ensure compliance with District policies state and federal laws and accreditation requirements.
- Support development and management of building-level budgets and resource allocation.
Family & Community Engagement
- Build positive relationships with family and community stakeholders.
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding school programs expectations and concerns.
- Represent the School and District in meetings and community activities.
Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain required administrative licensure and certifications.
- Participate in District Leadership meetings and professional development.
- Follow District policies ethical standards and administrative procedures.
Other Duties
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Masters degree in an approved program that qualifies for principal certification with the state of South Dakota.
- Valid South Dakota Teaching Certificate required.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of instructional leadership curriculum development and school improvement strategies.
- Strong leadership organizational and decision-making skills.
- Ability to supervise evaluate and support staff effectively.
- Strong communication conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic school environment.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand walk sit and move throughout school buildings.
- Ability to use hands and fingers for writing typing and handling materials.
- Ability to lift carry or move up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to supervise students and respond appropriately in emergency or safety situations.
- Ability to visually and audibly monitor students staff and surroundings.
- Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
