We are currently seeking a CFL Learning Strategies Partner who will assist the Wernham West Centre for Learning in delivering its four mandates with a primary focus on providing individualized learning support as needed to any UCC student within their designated Division. They will enhance the learning environment at UCC by facilitating a greater understanding of the different learning styles and needs of all students and assisting them in developing strategies appropriate to their learning profile. They will provide individualized learning support as needed to any UCC student. They will provide professional development and support for UCC faculty to be a resource to parents and other stakeholders in the school community and he will connect with other schools and organizations by collaborating developing research relationships and communities and working with other organizations.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Create an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere in the Centre for Learning space;

  • Develop and deliver various workshops throughout the years as needed by the students and teachers;

  • Provide additional support for students through our Homework Help program;

  • Work collaboratively with the Centre for Learning Team and teachers to develop best teaching practices;

  • Work with teachers department heads and the PYP and MYP Coordinators to support the learning skills curriculum;

  • Work collaboratively with the Health Centre team to support and implement student return-to-learn plans following a concussion or extended absence;

  • Develop individual education plans according to Ontario Ministry of Education requirements along with International Baccalaureate requirements and share plans with students parents and teachers;

  • Read psychological and medical assessments and develop individual education plans (OPRs/ILPs);

  • Conduct various diagnostic assessments to support student learning;

  • Plan and provide classroom small group and individual support for boys in the areas of organization learning skills and literacy and numeracy skills;

  • Share information about individual student learning needs with teachers and develop support plans and effective teaching strategies;

  • Monitor and track the implementation and effectiveness of individual education plans and make adjustments as needed;

  • To administer English Language placement assessment to new students (as appropriate) and develop individualized learning plans to support their English language skill development;

  • Work collaboratively with the Centre for Learning Team and teachers to develop best teaching practices with a focus on boys and learning;

  • Lead teacher grade Level meetings providing teachers with professional development on various learning profiles and pedagogical approaches while also attending to student and grade level needs;

  • Work collaboratively with the MYP coordinator Centre for Learning team and teachers to develop and deliver the approaches to learning skills curriculum;

  • Work collaboratively with the Centre for Learning Team on research projects and community partnerships as approved by the Director;

  • Maintain up to date knowledge of various learning interventions and programs that support student learning.

Job Requirements

Experience Knowledge and Competencies:

  • An Education degree with qualifications in Special Education is a must;

  • Additional qualifications in ESL and experience with assistive technology and the international Baccalaureate diploma program an asset;

  • Experience in reading educational evaluations and developing individual education plans;

  • 5 years previous teaching and work experience that involves collaboration in the area of curricula development and instructional expertise;

  • Knowledge the Ministry of Education Special Education and International Baccalaureate Inclusion and access policies;

  • Knowledge of boys development and needs;

  • Knowledge of current teaching methodology and best practices;

  • Knowledge of technology-enabled teaching models and tools;

  • Knowledge of adult education principles and practices;

  • Ability to problem solve organize and manage time and have great attention to detail;

  • Ability to prioritize and deal with high volumes of work with minimal supervision and frequent interruptions;

  • Ability to assess teaching outcomes determine patterns and develop/recommend new/improved teaching tools and strategies;

  • Ability to anticipate identify and address concerns of teachers;

  • Ability to build relationships with colleagues students and parents;

  • Ability to be an effective team member with a strong collaborative and consultative approach;

  • Ability to engage with all faculty to promote and support continuous learning and the introduction of new teaching methodologies and tools;

  • Ability to engage with all stakeholder groups including students and parents to discuss and promote optimal learning;

  • Ability to understand special learning requirements and explain specialized teaching methodology to address;

  • Responsible for providing individualized learning support as needed to any UCC student within the designated Division while also assisting the Wernham West Centre for Learning in delivering its four mandates.

This job is for a new vacancy. Compensation is based on the faculty salary grid which varies by qualifications and years of teaching experience. The salary range is $77221 to $121 547. For the full grid please see the careers site.
