Job Summary
Position Objective: The Virology Research Scientist will provide services in support of the overall functions of the Office of Chief Scientist - Integrated Research Facility (OCSIRF) within the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. The PI-1 Virology Core has the principal focus of developing and executing an independent research program that is focused on understanding aspects of viral infection replication or pathogenesis to support the mission of the IRF-Frederick and NIAID.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide research services to support animal studies such as perform virology research that is focused on high-risk (BSL-3 and/or BSL-4) viral pathogens.
- Develop and manage independent research as overseen by more Senior research staff.
- Work will include proper documentation of research collation of research data manuscript writing and presentation and supporting other research activities as directed.
- Execute independent research as overseen by the Federal Task Leader and other senior members
- Maintain good laboratory research documentation including laboratory notebooks (electronic or otherwise)
- Maintain proper inventory of any virological agents and specialized reagents
- Submit peer-reviewed publications preferably in high impact journals
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum of a PhD or similar from an accredited college or university with a focus on virology molecular biology cell biology immunology or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Virology research experience (>2 years preferred) with a focus on Risk Group 3 or 4 viruses preferred.
- Strong communication skills both oral and written.
- Analytic organizational and time management skills.
