Position Overview

As a member of the Production & Site Services Team the Metallurgist will report to the Superintendent Process Plant Operations and work a 2 weeks on/2 weeks off schedule at the Ekati Diamond Mine.

The Process Plant Metallurgist provides technical support to monitor and optimize the Diamond Processing Plant operational performance. You will enjoy working closely with Operators Team Leaders and Engineers to continuously improve production capacity cost efficiency safe work practices and environmental stewardship. Emphasis is on working in multi-disciplinary teams to identify opportunities and challenges drive change contribute to successful implementation of projects/initiatives and report on results.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Continuous improvement to ensure an effective operation with a proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Advocating on all Health Safety Environment and Community programs and ensuring Safety is imparted as the number one priority in all aspects of Plant Operations.
  • Research best practices develop procedures and take an active role in internal controls and monitoring of activities.
  • Participating as part of the Production Department Leadership in goal setting and the strategic planning process.
  • Assisting in developing/managing the Departmental budget including the evaluation and review of processes and equipment as well as preparing capital expenditure proposals where required.
  • Providing technical guidance coaching and mentoring to Team Leaders and crew members.
  • Planning and execution of all Process Plant Operations technical activities and monitoring the plant performance.
  • Identifying plant performance and cost improvement opportunities as well as selecting and implementing solutions within operating budget guidelines or through capital projects.
  • Providing technical leadership and day to day guidance to Plant Operational teams to ensure the use of best practice for a lower cost higher performance operation.

Education/Experience

  • Degree in Mineral Processing Metallurgical or Chemical Engineering or extensive progressive experience in diamond processing technical roles.
  • 3 to 5 years experience working in the Mining / Processing industry.
  • Action Oriented and sense of urgency.
  • Approachability influencing and strong communication skills
  • Data driven and sound problem solving abilities.
  • Coordination organization and planning skills.

Additional Information

The Company provides travel to and from the Ekati mine site out of Calgary Yellowknife and other northern fly points.
