The Cohasset Police Department has recently withdrawn from the Massachusetts Civil Service system and is actively seeking Entry Level candidates interested in serving the Cohasset community.

What the Cohasset PD Offers:

Minimum Requirements
To be considered an eligible candidate the Cohasset PD requires applicants receive a 70% and above on the getbadged Entry Exam and meet or exceed the Minimum Requirements as outlined below.

  • Citizenship: Be a U.S. Citizen (Birth or naturalization).
  • Age Requirement: Be at least 21 years old upon appointment to the Police Academy.
  • Drivers License: Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Massachusetts Drivers License.
  • Certifications: Have the ability to obtain a Massachusetts Class A License to Carry a firearm (LTC-A) at the time of hire.
  • Education:Possess a minimum of Associates Degree or equivalent credits when enrolled in a Bachelors program from an accredited college/university orPossess a High School Diploma/G.E.D. equivalent and have achieved Veterans status with the United Armed Forces as defined by M.G.L.
  • Background Investigation:Can not be a convicted felon or have convictions from another jurisdiction that would be treated as a felony in the Commonwealth. Must pass a thorough background investigation prior to employment.
  • Police Academy: Must have to ability to successfully complete a FT MPTC Police Academy or equivalent and become MA POST Certified.
  • Fitness & Medical: Must pass physical fitness test medical and psychological examination and a drug screen/test.
  • Non-Smoking: Not smoke and stay a non-smoker. Smoking tobacco is prohibited as outlined in M.G.L. Chapter 41 Section 101A.
  • Entry Exam: Must achieve 70% on the getbadged Entry Exam.
Salary & Compensation
The Cohasset Police Department offers a competitive salary & benefits compensation package.

Annual Salary:

  • $69939 - $83510 (Effective July 1 2026) *
  • Certified officers will receive credit for time served. Experience and years of service will determine starting salary.
* Effective July 1 2026 top step for a patrol officer is $106023 including night differential longevity Bachelors degree incentive pay and holiday pay.
