Job Summary

Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) is one of the largest school divisions in Alberta serving the education needs of approximately 17750 students in 43 schools. A.L. Horton Elementary is seeking a full-time (1.0 FTE) teacher for their Ukrainian Language and Culture program. Knowledge of Ukrainian culture is required. Although fluency in the Ukrainian language is an asset for the position applicants who can proficiently read write and speak Ukrainian will be considered. The successful applicant will also teach a homeroom in English. The specific grade level for the homeroom position will be determined based on school needs and the successful applicant.

Horton Elementary is a designated Play and Learn at School (PALS) pre-kindergarten site as well as hosts the Divisions Ukrainian Language and Culture Program.

A.L. Horton Elementary serves approximately 335 students in kindergarten to Grade 6 with 17 teaching staff and 14 support staff. The school is located in Vegreville AB approximately 90 kilometres east of Sherwood Park AB.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Education degree
  • Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate
  • Effective organization and classroom management skills
  • Ability to create a classroom environment where students feel safe supported and challenged
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Experience or familiarity with analyzing data and using data to inform decisions and/or instruction
  • Strong collaboration and teamwork skills
  • Growth mindset and ability to use feedback to improve practice
  • Relentless drive to set and achieve personal and professional goals
