Job Summary:

As the Recipient Rights Officer you ensure the agency operates a Recipient Rights System compliant with the Michigan Mental Health Code.

You will receive reports of and investigate apparent or suspected violations of rights. You will act to assist recipients of mental health services in obtaining resolution of complaints.

In this role you work to safeguard the rights guaranteed by the mental health code through prevention monitoring and education.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Education: Minimally possess bachelors degree license in a human services field management public administration social science health sciences or a law degree.
  • Years of Experience: Possess a minimum of 1-year experience in healthcare that includes interactions with patients and providers. License: Maintain state license for field of study as applicable.
  • Certification: Within the first 90 days of employment attend and successfully complete the Basic Skills Training curriculum (Basic Skills I & II) as determined by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Office of Recipient Rights. Receive a minimum of 3 hours of training in recipient rights protection annually. Maintain knowledge of current practices in rights protection through participation in training annually. Obtain a minimum of 36 credit hours of rights training every three years as identified in the MDHHS-ORR Training Technical Requirement.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

  • Skills: Working knowledge of the Mental Health Code and the ability to interpret and apply statutes rules policies and procedures is helpful but not .
  • License: Hold a license in healthcare related field (i.e. RN PT SW MHT or equivalent) with experience interacting with patients families and visitors.
