Where youll be working

Join the Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD) Nursing and Midwifery Research Centre (NMRC) a leading hub dedicated to supporting and advancing nurse- and midwife-led practice-based research across the district. Youll work alongside a highly experienced team including Clinical Nurse Consultants (CNCs) Midwives and the Joint Professor of Nursing and Midwifery Research.

This role operates across the HNELHD network providing opportunities to support research in rural regional and metropolitan facilities while building connections with academic and clinical partners. Youll be part of a team that values collaboration innovation and translating research into meaningful improvements in patient care.

About the role

As a Clinical Nurse Consultant (Research) Grade 2 you will provide expert guidance mentorship and education to clinicians leading practice-based research projects. Youll help nurses and midwives evaluate current practice generate evidence and implement research findings to improve patient outcomes.

Your day-to-day work will include:

  • Supporting clinician-led research from problem recognition study design ethics and governance approvals through to data analysis and dissemination
  • Providing mentorship and education to research interns and clinical teams
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary academic and community partners to extend nursing and midwifery knowledge
  • Contributing to NMRC strategic and operational plans including publications grant applications and research outputs
  • Promoting a positive culturally safe research culture aligned with HNELHD values and the Closing the Gap strategy

You wont be working alone - youll be supported by the NMRC team Nurse Managers and the Joint Professor of Nursing and Midwifery Research with access to professional development and networks to strengthen your research expertise. Travel within HNELHD may be required.

About you

You are a highly skilled motivated and research-driven nurse or midwife passionate about improving clinical practice through evidence-based research. You bring:

  • Current Authority to Practice with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse or Midwife
  • Minimum 5 years post-registration experience including at least 3 years in a specialty field and experience in practice-based research
  • Postgraduate qualifications in research (PhD or working toward one in Health or Social Science preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to support clinicians in evaluating practice and implementing research to improve patient outcomes
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills to engage stakeholders present findings and publish results
  • Experience leading or supporting rigorous ethical and culturally safe research
  • Ability to analyse synthesise and apply research knowledge including literature review study design data collection analysis and manuscript preparation
  • NSW drivers licence and willingness to travel as required
