For experienced commercial underwriters who enjoy building refining and influencing underwriting frameworks this role offers the chance to have a tangible impact while working alongside a dynamic and forward-thinking team.

Key Responsibilities

As the Senior Commercial Underwriter you will play a critical role in evaluating risk developing underwriting guidelines and supporting the growth of the brokerages in-house commercial program. Your responsibilities will include:

Underwriting & Risk Assessment:
o Evaluate price and underwrite commercial insurance risks in accordance with program guidelines and risk appetite.
o Analyze submissions coverage requests and exposures to ensure profitable and sustainable portfolio growth.

Program Development & MGA Collaboration:
o Contribute to the development and refinement of underwriting guidelines rating structures and appetite frameworks for the in-house program.
o Work closely with MGA partners brokers and internal stakeholders to align underwriting practices and ensure consistency.

Broker & Stakeholder Engagement:
o Provide underwriting support technical guidance and training to brokers and internal teams.
o Build strong relationships with broker partners and contribute to business development through underwriting expertise and market insight.

Portfolio Management & Performance:
o Monitor portfolio performance identify trends and recommend underwriting or pricing adjustments to optimize profitability.
o Support audits reporting and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance underwriting efficiency and quality.

Qualifications

To succeed in this role candidates should demonstrate the following:

Education & Experience:
o Minimum 5 years of commercial underwriting experience within an MGA environment.
o CIP designation preferred (or actively working toward completion).

Technical Skills:
o Strong knowledge of commercial lines products coverage structures and risk evaluation methodologies.
o Experience working with underwriting platforms broker portals and industry rating tools is an asset.

o Excellent analytical and decision-making skills with a strong attention to detail.
o Strong communication and relationship-building abilities to collaborate with brokers and internal stakeholders.
o A proactive entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to contribute to program development and process improvement.
