GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
As a Public Health Nurse in Washakie County youll be at the forefront of promoting health and preventing disease within your community. Public Health Nursing is a specialized field that goes beyond traditional patient careits about fostering wellness and resilience across this role youll work closely with individuals families and groups to identify health needs provide essential healthcare services and connect people with valuable health resources.
Our Public Health Nurses deliver a wide range of services tailored to community health including administering vaccines and conducting disease screenings as well as educating the public on health risks and healthy behaviors. - Conduct nursing assessments diagnoses treatments and evaluations in line with ANAs Public Health Nursing Standards.
- Arrange and lead community health clinics and health education classes.
- Support public health core functions prioritizing services that meet community needs.
- Administer adult and child vaccines provide STI/HIV testing manage TB testing and more.
- Provide Ryan White case management maternal and child home visitation lactation counseling and LT-101 reviews.
- Collaborate with the nurse manager and public health response coordinator on emergency preparedness activities.
Qualifications
PREFERENCES:
Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Wyoming.
**A valid drivers license is required.
KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of laws principles practices and techniques of professional nursing.
- Knowledge of the maintenance of medical records charts reports and observations.
- Knowledge of principles of the nursing process and scientific process.
- Knowledge of applying medical diagnosis and treatment to patient care.
- Knowledge of scientific concepts as a basis for decision-making.
- Knowledge of evaluation services and programs according to standards.
- Knowledge of work management and leadership theory and practice.
- Knowledge of federal state and local laws pertaining to healthcare.
- Knowledge of public health core functions and essential services.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Associates Degree in Nursing
Experience:
0-2 years of progressive work experience in Nursing with acquired knowledge at the level of an LPN
Certificates Licenses Registrations:Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Wyoming
OR
Education & Experience Substitution:
3-5 years of progressive work experience in Nursing with acquired knowledge at the level of an LPN
Certificates Licenses Registrations:
Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Wyoming
Necessary Special Requirements
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
- A background check including the taking of fingerprints will be completed through the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation the Department of Family Services and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for every successful applicant.
Must be able to:
- Lift medical equipment of varying sizes and weights up to about 50 lbs.
- Climb stairs to patient homes and drive long distances.
- Travel throughout the state and to national conferences if requested.
- Work evenings nights and /or weekends when the situation requires it.
NOTES:
- FLSA: Non-exempt
- The Wyoming Department of Health is an E-Verify employer.
- Part-time positions available up to 32 hours per week possible.
- As a condition of employment the successful applicant will be required to execute a release of personnel records to the director/board/commissioners in the county area involved on an as-needed addition the successful applicant will be required to complete an Employee Health Assessment which includes verification of immunity to vaccine-preventable diseases. If found to be non-immune vaccination will be required unless medically contraindicated. Yearly influenza vaccination is also required unless medically contraindicated. A background check including fingerprinting will be completed by the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation the Department of Family Services and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for every successful applicant. This position is located in the Public Health Nursing Section.

- Current state employees accepting a promotional opportunity - recruitment must have been open to the public
- One year of service in the position must be completed. Failure to complete this requirement will require reimbursement of the bonus with the funds deducted from the final pay.
- Internal candidates will be required to remain in the position for a minimum of (1) year from the promotion date.
- Employees will only be eligible for (1) hiring bonus in 12 months.
