Orthopedic Surgeon Sports Medicine
Position Summary
The Sports Medicine Orthopedic Surgeon provides comprehensive surgical and non-surgical care for patients with musculoskeletal injuries and conditions related to sports physical activity and overuse. This role focuses on the prevention diagnosis and treatment of athletic and activity-related injuries with an emphasis on restoring function mobility and performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate and treat sports-related and musculoskeletal injuries
- Perform orthopedic surgical procedures within the scope of sports medicine training
- Manage injuries of the shoulder knee hip elbow and ankle
- Provide non-operative care including injections bracing rehabilitation planning and physical therapy coordination
- Diagnose acute injuries and manage chronic degenerative or overuse conditions
- Interpret diagnostic imaging and test results
- Develop individualized treatment and recovery plans
- Participate in call coverage and orthopedic consults as required
- Collaborate with physical therapists athletic trainers and other healthcare professionals
- Educate patients on injury prevention treatment options and recovery timelines
- Maintain accurate timely and compliant medical documentation
- Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives
Practice Setting
- Outpatient clinic and surgical settings
- Hospital-based and ambulatory surgical environments
- May include elective and urgent orthopedic care
Qualifications
- MD or DO from an accredited medical school
- Completion of an accredited Orthopedic Surgery residency
- Fellowship training in Sports Medicine
- Board certified or board eligible in Orthopedic Surgery
- Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in the practicing state
- DEA registration or eligibility
