About the job:

Provide leadership and supervision for assigned youth recreation program while also serving as administrative support for all Youth Recreation program areas.


A day in the life:

Processes paperwork

Conducts research and generates reports.

Develops and formats documents and forms proofreads and edits documents.

Operates a variety of office equipment such as copiers and computers.

Provides excellent internal and external customer service. Creates a positive experience for customers through professional and courteous behavior and creative problem solving.

Provides training leadership direction and support to Youth Recreation staff.

Supervises assigned youth recreation programs and participants staff and volunteers. Oversees the safety of participants in youth programs.

Plans organizes implements and supervises activities designed to be developmentally appropriate and builds skills.

Communicates on a regular basis with school staff principal office staff custodians counselors and teachers.

Identifies needed staff and equipment.

Performs program specific planning and evaluation within broad goals and guidelines.

Trains mentors sets goals with and evaluates staff.

Addresses program specific risk management issues.

Interacts with the youth through games and other planned activities.

Facilitate inclusion of special needs participants in your program.

Manages accidents and incidents according to procedures

Completes required reports/paperwork.

Oversees and participates in field trips including but not limited to swimming hiking bowling skating and various other physical activities.

Purchases supplies not to exceed $100.

Monitors program expenditures to ensure spending is in line with budget.

Oversees general upkeep and care of equipment supplies and facilities used.

Attends supervisory and planning meetings

Communicates on a regular basis with patrons participants parent/guardians community partners regarding questions concerns and emerging issues.

Acts as a Mandatory Reporter; reports incidents of child abuse/neglect.

Performs job related duties as assigned.


Kids Inc After School Program and No School Days Dates:

Kids Inc follows Bend La Pine School District Calendar August-June


This position oversees our No School Day programs and is required to act as the program leader for these programs. Including but not limited to conferences fall winter and spring break.


Summer Camp Programs:

This position assists in The PAC and Cougar Camp summer camp programs.


Scheduled Hours: Monday - Friday 10:00am - 5:30pm


Estimated total of 35 hrs per week

Requirements

What youll need for success:

Strong Knowledge of:

  • Operations functions and standards for assignment including programming facility operations and risk management;
  • Effective supervision and customer service best practices;
  • Applicable laws codes regulations policies and procedures for assignment.
  • Behavior management; childhood development and age appropriate crafts games and activities;
  • Effective teaching techniques;
  • Safety and sanitation guidelines; and
  • General knowledge of supervision practices.
  • Leadership coaching and training.
  • Office administrative process procedures and functions including Microsoft Suite Office Software and telephone etiquette
  • Basic arithmetic spelling English and grammar.

Considerable Knowledge of:

  • Effectively communicating with others verbally and in writing including by phone email or in person.
  • Organize and prioritize own work in a setting with frequent interruptions.


What were looking for:

Education Experience and Training:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent; college courses in related field preferred; AND
  2. One (1) year of experience in area of responsibility and/or performing similar tasks; OR
  3. Any satisfactory combination of education experience and training.

License and Certification

  1. Possession of or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire a valid First Aid/CPR certification.

Position Specific Requirement

This position may require reporting to additional sites throughout the workday typically achieved in a motor vehicle OR other modes of transportation. If choosing a personal vehicle possession of or ability to obtain valid Oregon drivers license within 30 days with an acceptable driving history as defined by district driving policy.

If you do not have a drivers license or have an unacceptable driving history it does not disqualify you from this position only from driving a vehicle for district business.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

In assisting the Supervisor provides leadership to assigned staff which may include directing and assigning work adjusting work schedules training coaching and providing input into evaluating performance.


Supervision Received:

Reports directly to a Supervisor. Follows standard processes and procedures without supervision but confirms changes to standard practices and significant decisions in advance.


Working Conditions:

  • Depending on facility duties may be performed either indoors or outdoors which may include working in extreme weather conditions.
  • Work schedule is varied and includes early evenings and holidays. Some positions require the ability to work a rotating on-call schedule and may require working during off duty hours for emergency call-outs.
  • Physical exertion includes frequent walking bending and the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted pushing pulling and kneeling.
  • The flow of work and character of duties involve normal mental and visual attention much or all of the time.
  • Ability to work and maintain focus in a work environment with moderate noise (i.e. working around others making periodic phone calls or having conversations) and with frequent interruptions.
  • Work includes extensive exposure and contact with staff and public which may cause exposure to illness.
  • Occasional focus on a computer screen. Manual dexterity and coordination may be required. Daily precise control of fingers and hand movements while operation computer keyboard telephone and standard office equipment.
  • Ability to maintain sustained concentration on computer screens; use keyboards and a variety of peripherals.
  • This position will require reporting to additional sites throughout the workday typically achieved in a motor vehicle or other modes of transportation. Selection Process:
Applicants are screened based upon their relevant knowledge abilities skills experience and training. An offer of employment is contingent on the verification of credentials and other information required by Bend Park & Recreation District policies including a background check and a driving history review when driving is required for position.
