The Assessor Treasurers Office is dedicated to your success at becoming adept at appeals sales validations and other specialized work. You will have additional training/educational opportunities through organizations such as the International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO) the Department of Revenue (DOR) and the Washington State Association of County Assessors (WSACA). Your work willdirectly impact your community and it offers a great foundation for future positions within the Assessor Treasurers Office and Pierce County.

Core Daily Responsibilities:

  • Inspect and appraise all categories of real property to determine values. Inspect properties for the purpose of gathering land and building characteristics data including quality of workmanship and materials.
  • Note property and its amenities in relation to surrounding properties. Measure improvements verify and record land and building characteristics. Draw scale plans of buildings using current office software.
  • Accurately record data on field record forms.
  • Prepare and present evidence of fair market value for hearings before the County Board of Equalization and State Board of Tax Appeals; and may attend hearings to present data documenting the appraisal process and may testify as a fact and/or expert witness on behalf of the Assessor-Treasurers Office for administrative and court cases on valuation issues.

Minimum Qualifications


  • One or more years experience as a Real or Personal Property appraiser AND
  • Must be able to qualify to be accreditedby the State Department of Revenue
  • Additional related education or experience may substitute year-for-year for the minimum requirements
  • Must have a current and valid Washington State drivers license upon starting position
  • Must pass 30 minutes basic Appraiser Skills Assessment prior to hire.
  • As a condition of employment the applicant will need to authorize and complete a background check. Information received from the background check is reviewed case-by-case and will not necessarily remove an applicant from consideration.
