Job Summary

The NVP Range Tech maintains preserve areas frequented by the visiting public and performs land management activities. The NVP Range Tech removes exotic species and/or conducts species monitoring and may also manage livestock. The NVP Range Tech may assist in prescribed burns and maintain tools equipment and land. The PII will open and close preserve to the visiting public and maintain preserve records using a database PC or mobile device.

The NVP Range Tech reports to the NVP Stewardship Manager. This position pays $20.00 - $24.00 depending on the candidates experience.

The Niobrara Valley Preserve Range Technician (NVP Range Tech) plays an essential role in the operation maintenance and management of the Niobrara Valley Preserve. Housing is available onsite.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The NVP Range Tech maintains preserve areas frequented by the visiting public and performs land management activities. The NVP Range Tech removes exotic species and/or conducts species monitoring and may also manage livestock. The NVP Range Tech may assist in prescribed burns and maintain tools equipment and land. The PII will open and close preserve to the visiting public and maintain preserve records using a database PC or mobile device.

The NVP Range Tech reports to the NVP Stewardship Manager. This position pays $20.00 - $24.00 depending on the candidates experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE

  • Supervises no staff but may help plan and direct preserve work groups including staff or volunteers.

  • Will work in variable weather conditions at remote locations on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.

  • Requires considerable physical exertion and/or muscular strain.

  • May require long hours in isolated settings.

  • Makes day to day decisions as delegated by supervisor.

  • May work under infrequent supervision.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED and 1 years training in science-related field or related experience in land management.

  • Experience recognizing plant and animal species.

  • Experience operating various types of equipment in a safe and efficient manner (e.g. Lawn mower chainsaw UTV ATV or OHV two-way radio or similar equipment).

  • Experience working in a team environment.

  • Must be able to obtain related licenses or certifications as . (e.g. First Aid CPR herbicide or pesticide application).

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.

  • 1 - 2 years experience in land management or related field.

  • Experience working with or knowledge of natural systems.

  • Ability to obtain drivers license and maintain a good driving record.

  • Ability to follow instructions from colleagues/coworkers/team members.

  • PC and/or mobile device familiarity including database knowledge or understanding.

Salary Information:

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $20.00 - $24.00 per hour. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidates actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors including for example the candidates location qualifications specific skills and experience. Please note that countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
