JOB ASSIGNMENT: Part-time

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP: The Practical Nursing Program Instructor reports to the Director of the Central Susquehanna LPN Career Center and in their absence to the Chief Outreach Officer (COO).

JOB DEFINITION: The Practical Nursing Program Instructor works with the Central Susquehanna Licensed Practical Nurse Career Center full-time staff to plan deliver and participate in the evaluation of the practical nursing program curriculum. The Practical Nursing Program Instructor also supervises students in clinical laboratory and classroom settings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Develop and implement course outlines lesson plans tests and examinations to meet the academic and behavioral objectives of the practical nursing program.
  2. Adapt instructional methods and materials to meet students needs and advance the programs objectives keeping instructional materials current.
  3. Plan implement supervise and evaluate laboratory and clinical experiences with attention to content sequence and integration according to the program curriculum.
  4. Observe evaluate and document student performance and progress in classroom laboratory and clinical settings.
  5. Assist the Director in reviewing and revising policies for student selection and promotion.
  6. Assist the Director in selecting students and orienting them to program policies goals objectives and performance expectations including clinical and laboratory experiences.
  7. Participate in ongoing review and revision of program policies goals objectives and curriculum.
  8. Maintain instructional expertise across all curriculum content areas.
  9. Serve as a professional liaison between program administration students and affiliating agencies and organizations sharing educational objectives with appropriate personnel in cooperating agencies.
  10. Maintain essential records pertinent to areas of instructional responsibilities.
  11. Attend and contribute to regular faculty meetings and to planned program activities.
  12. Plan and implement activities to promote continuous professional growth.
  13. Report student absences daily.
  14. Assist the director and other faculty members with student counseling and guidance as needed.
  15. Maintain professional rapport with all members of the programs faculty students and affiliating agencies.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or their designee.

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Minimum requirement is graduation from an approved school of professional nursing; a masters degree preferably in nursing is preferred. Will consider a bachelors degree with a commitment to complete a Masters in Nursing (MSN) degree within a determined amount of time. Proof of MSN credits completion will be required and reported annually to the Director of the CSLPN Career Center until the degree is received.
  • Current Pennsylvania licensure as a registered nurse.
  • Two (2) years of experience in nursing involving direct patient care or teaching of nursing is required.
  • Evidence of maintaining expertise in clinical and functional areas of responsibility.
  • Positive attitude toward practical nursing and its relationship to others on the health care team; ability to adapt to program changes for the improvement of the program curriculum and operation.
  • Requires the ability to develop and maintain positive collaborative relationships using tact and diplomacy and to remain calm in unpredictable situations.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with colleagues co-workers and community agency personnel.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current approved Act 34 (PA State Police) Act 151 (PA Child Abuse Registry) and Act 114-FBI Fingerprint clearances are required and must be renewed at appropriate specific intervals pursuant to Act 153 of 2014 (revised Act 15 of 2015).
  • Current approved Act 126 Mandated Reporter Training certificate showing completion of a minimum of three (3) hours of training every five (5) years.


PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT REQUIREMENTS:

  • Maintain completion of 30 nursing-related CEUs every two (2) years is required.
  • Attend relevant conferences trainings and in-services to maintain and enhance professional development as recommended by the immediate supervisor or required by the position.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • May require the occasional provision of bedside nursing care for adults children and infants including bending (occasionally to the floor) lifting (up to 25 lbs) and reaching (e.g. across beds to the top of an IV pole etc.)
  • Strength and stamina to carry the required materials and equipment.
  • Sedentary: Able to sit for extended periods of time occasional walking and standing (as necessary).
  • Dexterity: Finger movements (computer keyboard calculator) eye-hand coordination (office equipment etc.).
  • Audio-Visual Requirements: Within normal range with or without correction.
  • Can move throughout all buildings floors and grounds.
  • Worksite Environment: Primarily indoors office setting with occasional exposure to outdoor elements/climate during the day.
  • Mental demands: Steady response to unpredictable situations ability to remain calm and productive during stressful situations. Demonstrates independent judgment discretion and can manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • The ability to drive to clinical sites and off-site work locations as needed and required.

TIME AND SITE REQUIREMENTS:

  • This is a part-time non-exempt position not to exceed 29 hours per week; hours to be determined by the Director of the Central Susquehanna LPN Career Center as need dictates. Additional working hours must be pre-approved by the immediate supervisor.
  • Occasional evening and weekend scheduling may be necessary to accommodate student and program needs.
  • Regular attendance at work is required for this position; any absences must be approved by the immediate supervisor.
  • Attendance at evening or weekend meetings and occasional overnight travel to seminars and workshops is required.
