Your New Role

As a Senior Software Engineer on CNNs Privacy & Governance team you willbe responsible forbuilding privacyforward systems that safeguard the personal data and rights of millions of users across CNNs web platforms. You willoperateat the intersection of engineering data governance and regulatory compliance designing and implementing solutions that embedprivacy by designacross our architecture.

In this role you will work closely with product legal security and platform engineering teams to develop privacy-centric web features enforce compliant data handling practices and support scalable services that enable consent management data minimization regulatory readiness and user transparency. Your work will directly influence how data is collected stored processed and sharedhelpingensureCNNremainsa trusted and responsible steward of user information.

Your Role Accountabilities

• Design build andmaintainfull-stack web featuresthat uphold privacy principles such as consent management UIs privacysettingsdashboards data access & deletion flows and user transparency tools.

• Develop andoptimizebackend services and APIssupporting data governance auditing telemetry minimization event tagging and compliant tracking.

• Collaborate with legal product data and security teamsto implement solutions aligned with GDPRGPPCCPA/CPRA and other global privacy regulations.

• Integrate with internal and external privacy tools such as consent management platforms (CMPs) preference centers identity systems or data subjectrequestpipelines.

• Contribute to architectural decisionsthat promote data minimization secure data flows and consistent enforcement of privacy policies across applications.

• Perform code reviews enforce engineering best practices and ensure strong test coverage across both frontend and backend components.

• Debug and resolve privacy-related issuesacross the full web stack ensuring consistent experiences across browsers devices and regions.

• Document and communicate engineering decisionsand privacy implementations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Qualifications & Experience

• 5 years of experience building modern web applications including significant fullstack development experience (frontend backend).

• Proficiencywith modern frontend technologiessuch as JavaScript/TypeScript React or similar frameworks.

• Strong backend experiencewith Java Kotlin Go or similar server-side languagesincluding API design and data workflow implementation.

• Hands-on experience implementing privacy featuresfor web applications (e.g. consent banners preference centers cookie management data deletion & access flows).

• Deep understanding of web data flows including cookies local storage event tagging tracking scripts and browser-based privacy restrictions.

• Familiarity with global regulatory frameworks(e.g. GDPR CCPA CPRA) and how theyimpactfull-stack web architecture and data lifecycle management.

• Experience with large-scale consumer websitesor media organizations is a plus.

• Proficiencywith modern build tools CI/CD pipelines and cloud environments(AWS GCP or Azure).

• Strong communicationskills and collaborative mindsetwhen working across legal product engineering and compliance teams.

Additional Information

Discovery announced they have entered into a definitive agreement under which Netflix will acquire Warner Bros. including its film and television studios HBO Max and HBO. The transaction is expected to close after the separation of Warner Bros. Discoverys Global Networks division Discovery Global into a new publicly-traded company which is expected to be completed in Q3 2026. Although you will be hired by Warner Bros. Discovery upon the planned spin-off of Discovery Global in 2026 your employment likely will transition to Discovery Global.
