Position: Engineer Operator two (2) open positions and future hiring list

Status: Full-time employment salaried non-exempt.

Shift Schedule: Three shifts 48/96 rotation

Compensation: Including the 48/96 scheduled overtime the annual salary is approximately $86889.32. Base salary is $74553.85.

Closing Date for Application: Midnight Monday March 2 2026.

Minimum Requirements or Qualifications:

  • Two (2) or more years of experience with a TCFP-regulated department as a Firefighter
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • TCFP Basic Structural Firefighter Certification
  • TCFP Driver Operator Pumper Certification
  • TDSHS Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B) Certification
  • Courage to be Safe Certificate
  • Traffic Incident Management Certificate
  • Firefighter Cancer Support Network (FCSN) Reducing Cancer in the Fire Service Course
  • NIMSCertificates
  • Valid Texas Drivers License Class B (Firefighter Exempt)
  • Driving records must comply with departmental driving guidelines.

Required Skills:

  • Knowledge of current certification requirements for firefighter personnel
  • Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing in English
  • Strong team building leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Able to work well without supervision
  • Able to handle suddenly changing work conditions and assignments
  • Working knowledge of emergency operations management and emergency tactics.

Preferred or Desired Qualifications:

  • TCFP Intermediate Advanced Master Structural Firefighter Certification or equivalent
  • TCFP Instructor I III Certification
  • TCFP Fire Officer I IV Certification
  • TCFP Driver Operator Aerial Certification
  • TCFP Fire Investigator Certification
  • TCFP Fire Inspector Certification
  • TCFP Hazardous Materials Technician
  • TCFP Wildland Firefighter
  • Technical Rescue or other Special Operations training and or certifications
  • TDSHS and/or NREMT EMT-A or EMT-P Certification
  • Blue Card Incident Command Certification
  • Fire Ground Survival Training
  • College Education AS or BS degree in Fire Science or related field.

TESTING AND HIRING PROCESS:

Application Process:

  • Submit your application resume and cover letter by the deadline. This step is a pass/fail.
  • The application must document the above qualifications with any employment history contact information and three work-related references outside the Cypress Creek Fire Department.
  • Copies of certificates must be available upon request.
  • All applications must be signed by the deadline and required materials must be submitted online.
  • Incomplete or late applications will be rejected without consideration.
  • Applications will be reviewed and applicants who meet the required qualifications and follow all directions will receive an invitation to the physical agility portion of this process no later than 1700 hours on Tuesday March 3 2026.

Written Exam:

  • Date: Thursday April 16 2026 at 0900
  • Location: Cypress Creek Fire Station #Perry Road Houston TX 77070
  • The comprehensive written examination of one hundred (100) questions.
  • Study material information will be sent out after the application deadline.

Upon successfully completing the written exam (70% passing) the candidate will perform a physical agility test.

Physical Agility Test:

  • The physical agility test will be scheduled directly after the written exam.
  • The physical agility test will be held at Cypress Creek Station Perry Rd Houston Tx 77070.
  • The Physical Agility Test consists of the following:
    • Stair Climb Hose Drag Equipment Carry Ladder Raise and Extension Forcible Entry Ceiling Breach and Pull and Rescue.

    • See attached link for the video: successful completion of the physical agility test the candidate will be invited to continue the selection process.

      Assessment Center:

      • The process will consist of a multistage assessment center.
        • Details of this process will be released to qualified applicants after the application deadline.
      • Date: Tuesday April 21 2026 at 0900 (additional dates if needed due to the number of applicants will be Wednesday April 22 2026).
      • Location: Cypress Creek Fire Station #Perry Road Houston TX 77070

      Upon successful completion of the assessment center the candidate will be invited to an in-person oral interview.

      Oral Interview:

      • Date: Tuesday April 28 2025 at 0900 (additional dates if needed due to the number of applicants will be Wednesday April 29 Thursday April 30 and Friday May 1).

      Testing Accommodations:

      • Candidates seeking Examination/Testing/Assessment accommodations within Harris County Emergency Services District 13/Cypress Creek Fire Department (HCESD13/CCFD) with Examination/Testing/Assessments administered on campus are encouraged to make arrangements before testing.
      • Only the previously granted accommodations are made for the tester on the examination/testing/assessment day. If other accommodations are requested of us that have not been previously approved they are not allowed unless deemed appropriate by the Fire Chief or their designee.

      Work Location & Conditions:

      Most administrative duties will be in the office. Adverse or potentially hazardous environments will be routinely present during training exercises and/or emergency response operations. With protective clothing and SCBA moderate to heavy lifting will be required.
