We are looking for a Ruby Developer to design develop and maintain backend services and APIs. The role involves working with existing systems improving code quality and building new features in collaboration with product and engineering teams.
We are open to starting cooperation with a freelancer with the potential for this to grow into a long-term collaboration.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain backend applications using Ruby and Ruby on Rails that support core event orchestration capabilities ticketing access control transport logistics guest engagement and live operations;
- Design and implement RESTful APIs consumed by web dashboard mobile applications and third-party integrations;
- Write clean maintainable and well-tested code following established engineering standards;
- Optimize application performance and scalability to handle event-day traffic spikes and concurrent operations across multiple venues and time zones;
- Participate in code reviews and technical discussions to uphold quality across the codebase;
- Collaborate with product managers designers and other engineers to translate event-domain requirements into robust technical solutions;
- Troubleshoot debug and resolve production issues including during live event operations where uptime is critical.
Requirements:
- Strong professional experience with Ruby and Ruby on Rails;
- Solid understanding of OOP design patterns and MVC architecture;
- Experience with SQL databases (PostgreSQL preferred MySQL acceptable);
- Proven experience designing and consuming REST APIs and working with JSON data structures;
- Familiarity with background jobs (Sidekiq Resque or similar) queues and caching strategies (Redis Memcached);
- Experience with Git and CI/CD pipelines;
- Ability to work independently take ownership of tasks and communicate progress proactively in a remote/async setup.
Nice to Have:
- Experience with microservices architecture and service-to-service communication patterns;
- Knowledge of Docker and cloud platforms (AWS GCP or Azure);
- Experience with testing frameworks (RSpec Minitest);
- Understanding of security best practices particularly around PII handling authentication and authorization (relevant given our government and enterprise client base);
- Prior experience in event technology ticketing systems access management or high-availability platforms with real-time operational demands;
- Familiarity with webhook/event-driven architectures.
