Nauset Public Schools comprises five school districts located across four Cape Cod towns: Brewster Eastham Orleans and Wellfleet. Each town has its own school committee governing its elementary school(s) while the Nauset Regional School Committee governs the regional middle and high schools.
Together these five districts operate under the supervision of a Central Administration led by the Superintendent of Schools. The Central Office provides shared services to all schools including transportation human resources technology food services curriculum and instruction and student services.
Nausets geographic region is rich in history culture and environmental diversity. The district serves four rural communities that span approximately 30 miles from end to end and encompass more than 100 square miles.

Position Summary
The Assistant Superintendent for Finance & Operations serves as the Districts chief business and operations officer. Reporting to the Superintendent of Schools this position provides strategic leadership and oversight of all financial operational and support services to ensure the effective efficient and compliant operation of the District. The Director works closely with School Committees town officials administrators and department leaders to align resources with instructional and organizational priorities.
Essential Responsibilities
Financial Leadership and Budget Management
- Serve as a key advisor to the Superintendent School Committee and subcommittees on budgetary matters capital planning construction projects and district operations.
- Prepare and manage the Districts annual operating and capital budgets including detailed analyses of historical expenditures and future financial needs.
- Develop multi-year financial projections staffing analyses enrollment forecasts capital plans and long-range maintenance and repair plans for district facilities and grounds.
- Maintain comprehensive financial controls over all revenues and expenditures including grants revolving funds capital accounts and student activity accounts.
- Prepare monthly quarterly and special financial reports for the School Committee and other stakeholders.
Operations and Department Oversight
- Provide leadership and ensure compliance with all applicable local state and federal laws and regulations governing district business operations.
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the business office including accounting purchasing payroll accounts payable billing transportation buildings and grounds and food and nutrition services.
- Supervise the Food and Nutrition Services Director to ensure high-quality programming delivered in a cost-effective manner.
- Assist principals and administrators with financial operational and facilities-related matters.
Transportation Facilities and Asset Management
- Develop and oversee efficient student transportation systems including bid specifications routing ridership analysis and family communication.
- Develop and implement systems for inventory control and fixed asset management across all schools and district offices.
- Establish guidelines for community use of district facilities and grounds and support principals in managing building use and associated revenues.
- Develop and negotiate service contracts for transportation facilities copiers food services and other operational needs.
Policy Development and Strategic Collaboration
- Develop district-wide business procedures internal controls and cost-containment strategies to ensure effective use of resources.
- Create and maintain electronic systems for financial and human resources data management.
- Collaborate closely with the Directors of Technology Human Resources and Student Services to support efficient and integrated district operations.
- Provide management support during collective bargaining and participate in or lead negotiations as assigned by the Superintendent.
Compliance Reporting and External Relations
- Oversee insurance pension and 403(b) programs and ensure compliance with changing state and federal regulations.
- Act as the Districts procurement officer and coordinate bid processes and warrant articles in collaboration with town officials.
- Maintain strong working relationships with town managers treasurers accountants and other municipal officials in member communities.
- Oversee preparation and submission of DESE end-of-year reports grant financial reports MSBA documentation audits and other required state federal and local reports.
- Prepare financial and operational documents for public presentation including School Committee meetings town boards and Town Meeting and ensure timely posting on the District website.
Additional Duties
- Serve on district and municipal committees as directed by the Superintendent.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support the mission and goals of the District.
Job Requirements
- Minimum of Bachelors Degree in Business Administration Public Administration Accounting or Finance
A minimum of four (4) years of successful employment in one of the above fields including at least two (2) years in a supervisory role at a managerial level
Certified (or certifiable) by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as a Director or Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent and School Business Administrator - At least3year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
- Masterdegree preferred.
- Citizenship residency or work visa required
Availability: July 1 2026 or by mutual agreement

Salary Range: $165000.00 - $175000 based upon experience.
