Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Director of HIM this position prepares the medical record for completion by physicians and other allied health care professionals.
Job Responsibilities:
Scans the paper medical record into the electronic medical record after discharge.
Maintains proper confidentiality of medical records and ensures limited access to the department.
Responds to medical record requests within the hospital in a timely manner.
Follows all applicable laws and regulations regarding the release of information and the maintenance of medical records including those that relate to the age and legal status of the patient.
Prioritizes work assignments and accomplishes tasks accurately and in a timely manner.
Utilizes automated processes and clinical information systems appropriately and efficiently.
Identifies potential risks to patients: identifies risks to patients in order to reduce incidence of injury; identifies actions to eliminate minimize or report risks; identifies procedures to follow in the event of an incident; reports processes for common problems failures and user errors.
Applies the principles and values of customer service and continuous quality improvement while performing day-to-day activities of the position.
Maintains and protects confidentiality regarding all aspects of patient care personnel and strategic issues.
Skills & Abilities:
Able to work independently and meet established deadlines.
Able to make sound reasonable decisions
Highly organized
Ability to concentrate on many simultaneous detailed requests
Demonstrates accountability professionalism openness; is receptive to change and exhibits creativity and innovation
Ability to identify and calmly handle inherently stressful situations with tact
Excellent communication skills
Ability to develop excellent working relationships with patients patients family members physicians and hospital staff
Seeks guidance direction and assistance when needed
Ability to be flexible and take on new responsibilities
Effective communication skills; both orally and written.
Computer skills needed.
Strong problem-solving skills
Training & Education:
High school diploma or equivalent
Experience:
One (1) to two (2) years minimum experience working in Medical Records in a hospital setting required
Previous experience with customer service in a healthcare setting is required
