ABOUT BROOKSIDE COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER:
Brookside is a licensed Community Health Center of Brigham and Womens Hospital and provides multi-disciplinary comprehensive care with services in a range of medical areas including: Adult Family and Pediatric Primary Care
OB/GYN Family Planning Dental/Oral Surgery Nutrition/WIC Behavioral Health and Specialty Medicine (Cardiology Pulmonology and Nephrology). Brookside also has a Laboratory onsite Financial Counseling and Community Resource
Specialists. Each year more than 11000 patients from Jamaica Plain the city of Boston and surrounding areas use these services producing more than 69000 visits to Brookside each year. Most of Brooksides patient population are Spanish speaking and socioeconomically underserved. The health centers services guided by equity are provided by a bilingual English/Spanish medical and professional staff. Brookside is a teaching site for Harvard Medical School Mass General Institute of Health Professionals School of Nursing Harvard Dental School Boston University Dental School as well as other Boston area health care professional programs.
Job Summary
Summary
Under supervision of a Nurse Manager or licensed clinical leader and in collaboration with other team members provides direct and indirect patient care in accordance with the scope of practice.

Essential Functions
-Interviews patient about current problems medications allergies and reviews medical record for pertinent previous and current information.
-Measure and record patients vital signs such as height weight temperature blood pressure pulse or respiration.
-Provide basic patient care or treatments such as dressing wounds treating bedsores giving enemas or douches rubbing with alcohol massaging performing catheterizations routine immunizations and/or nebulizer treatments and visual acuity test.
-Participates in patient treatment regimen including administering medications (under the supervision of a physician and registered nurse).
-Performs variety of office responsibilities: answers phones and takes messages and performs triage within scope of licensed practical nursing practice in an accurate and timely manner.
-Collect samples such as blood urine or sputum from patients and perform routine laboratory tests on samples.
-Prepare patients for examinations tests or treatments and explain procedures.
-Help patients with bathing dressing maintaining personal hygiene moving in bed or standing and walking.

- Basic knowledge of patient education: interviewing and listening skills teaching and engagement techniques understanding of health-related conditions and information.

- Ability to administer medication; routes of administration may include injections intravenous and oral medications.
- Knowledge and ability to perform specific procedures and tests as appropriate to the clinical setting.
- Ability to communicate in a professional courteous clear and concise manner.
