Location: Albuquerque New Mexico (On-Site)

Employment Type: Long-Term Contract

Per Diem: Paid 7 days per week


Position Overview

The L2 / L3 Commissioning Superintendent is responsible for leading and coordinating Level 2 and Level 3 commissioning activities on large-scale data center construction projects. This role plays a critical part in ensuring that electrical systems and equipment are properly installed verified safely energized and ready for functional testing.

L2 commissioning focuses on installation verification and readiness while L3 commissioning focuses on initial startup energization and pre-functional testing of individual components. Together these phases reduce risk protect critical equipment and ensure systems are safely prepared for full integrated commissioning.

This position is ideal for a hands-on field leader with a strong electrical background and prior data center commissioning experience who can drive execution enforce quality and safety standards and coordinate closely with construction commissioning agents and trade partners.


Key Responsibilities


L2 / L3 Commissioning Leadership

  • Lead and manage L2 (installation verification) and L3 (startup and pre-functional testing) commissioning activities for electrical systems.
  • Verify that equipment is installed per design specifications and manufacturer requirements prior to energization.
  • Coordinate safe energization and startup of electrical equipment in alignment with approved procedures and commissioning plans.
  • Ensure all systems are ready for downstream functional and integrated testing.


Electrical Systems Oversight

  • Oversee commissioning activities for critical electrical infrastructure including switchgear transformers UPS systems generators PDUs RPPs and associated distribution systems.
  • Review electrical drawings schematics single-line diagrams and commissioning documentation.
  • Identify installation deficiencies punch items and commissioning readiness gaps; coordinate corrective actions with construction teams.


Field Coordination & Supervision

  • Coordinate daily commissioning activities with electrical contractors commissioning agents safety teams and project leadership.
  • Supervise field execution to ensure work is performed safely correctly and in the proper sequence.
  • Support development and execution of commissioning schedules including look-ahead planning and readiness tracking.


Quality Documentation & Compliance

  • Ensure commissioning activities follow approved procedures safety plans and quality standards.
  • Track commissioning progress test results deficiencies and resolutions.
  • Support development and completion of commissioning documentation checklists reports and turnover packages.
  • Maintain accurate records of L2/L3 completion status and system readiness.


Safety Leadership

  • Enforce strict electrical safety practices during energization and startup activities.
  • Lead by example in maintaining a strong safety culture on site.
  • Participate in job hazard analyses safety walks and energization planning meetings.


Stakeholder Communication

  • Communicate clearly with project leadership commissioning agents inspectors and trade partners regarding system status risks and next steps.
  • Assist with coordination between construction completion and commissioning handoff.
  • Provide field-level insight to help maintain schedule alignment and reduce commissioning delays.


Qualifications

  • Strong electrical background with experience supporting commissioning activities on complex projects.
  • Prior experience with L2 and L3 commissioning in data center or mission-critical environments.
  • Solid understanding of electrical installation verification energization and startup processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings single-line diagrams schematics and technical documentation.
  • Experience coordinating with commissioning agents electrical contractors and project teams.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills in fast-paced high-risk environments.
  • Proficiency with basic documentation and reporting tools (Microsoft Office).
  • Valid drivers license.
  • OSHA 30 certification required.
  • Data center commissioning experience strongly preferred.
