DescriptionIn accordance with the Vision Purpose and Values and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
The Systems Designer is a key member of the Systems Development team and is responsible for working within the Island Health enterprise architecture and software development methodologies to define a system configuration that supports solution requirements intended to support the organizations strategic goals.
The Systems Designer works closely with the solution business analysts designers and developers to ensure that business requirements are fully supported by the system and align with the overall seamless nature of the regions business undertakings across disparate vendor or custom solutions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education Training And Experience
A level of education training and experience equivalent to a Bachelors degree in computer science or health information science and a minimum of 7 years experience as a software developer with a minimum of three years experience with the Cerner Millennium system. Masters degree preferred.
A grounding in software development methodologies and a strong understanding of the Cerner Millennium system. Additional training/certifications in business processing including BPM and Lean architecture methodologies ITIL software development CMMI project management (PMI Prince) health informatics (CPHIMS-CA) is desirable.
Skills And Abilities
- Expert knowledge of the Cerner Millennium system including architecture functionality modules and associated development tools.
- Knowledge of common healthcare related standards including SBAR SNOMED HL7 is desired.
- Ability to create and read UML diagrams use cases.
- Ability to convert requirements in to system specifications that are further decomposed to discrete work packages to be developed as part of the system solution.
- Good interpersonal skills including tact and diplomacy in dealing with a variety of work situations excellent facilitation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain good working relationships.
- Excellent personal organizational and time management skills.
- Proven ability to work in a dynamic environment with a variety of disciplines.
- Ability to handle multiple concurrent streams of work.
- Well developed listening and recording skills.
