Engineers on theMarket Services and Market Design teamsplaya critical role in the development analysis and implementation of organized electricity market designs supporting SPPs Markets initiative. This roleis responsible foranalyzing market design concepts evaluating the impacts of design modifications and supporting stakeholder-driven market evolution through data-driven analysis testing and collaboration.
This position works closely with internaldepartmentsincluding Markets Operations Legal Regulatory and Settlements as well as external stakeholders such as market participants vendors FERC andRTOs/ISOs. The Senior Market Design Engineer leads andfacilitatesdiscussions across multiple working groups supports regulatory filings and ensures implemented software and processes align with approved market design.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze and develop organized electricity market designs and evaluate the impacts of market design changes.
- Lead and support Markets working groups andfacilitatemarket design changes through the stakeholder process.
- Perform market analysis develop market metrics and create reports toidentifyand resolve market issues.
- Test andvalidatemarket functionality to ensure alignment with intended design and outcomes.
- Collaborate with internal teams (Markets Operations Legal Regulatory Settlements) to ensure consistent implementation of market design.
- Coordinate with market participants vendors FERC and RTOs/ISOs on market policy and design.
- Support regulatory filings by providing data analysis and drafting technical materials.
- Research and benchmark market designs fromotherRTOs/ISOs and Western Market Initiatives.
- Document analyses andpresentfindings to internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop training materials and mentor junior staff members
To be successfulwerelooking for:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering this degree should:
- Be from a university that meets the requirements to sit for the Professional Engineering exam (inâArkansas that is most typically a degree from an ABET accredited university or a graduate degree from a college that has an ABET accreditation)
- Degree should be in a calculus-based engineeringfield fieldand preferred degree programs are Electrical Engineering Computer Engineering Industrial Engineering Mechanical Engineering or Systems Engineering
- Engineer I - no experience required
- Engineer II - Two (2) years of relevant Engineering experience
- Competent with administrative and communication tools for word processing spreadsheet development and timekeeping.
- Strong knowledge of several power systems analysis tools applicable to steady state dynamic short circuit or database management systems.
- Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills with strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Proficient with communication and data-handling software including Microsoft Office (Word Excel Access).
- Ability to understand andcomply withSPP Policies and Procedures.
Preferred:
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Advanced degree in a related field of study.
- Experience in the electric utility industry.
- Proficient with most SPP power systems analysis tools with a solid command of several SPP tools and/or processes.
- Sound understanding of the SPP Open Access Transmission Tariff FERC & NERC governing documents SPP By-Laws SPP Criteria and the SPP Committee structure.
âPosition Type and Expected Hours of Work:
- This is a full-time position. Days and hours of the workweek are Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.âWorking extended hours may berequired.
Travel Requirement:
- This position requires moderate travel (approximately 10-15%)
