TITLE:CLASSROOM AIDE
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: Must be 18 years of age or older; must have good oralandwritten command of English (Spanish whererequiredby assignment)
REPORTS TO: Teacher and Principal
JOB GOAL: Assist in providing a well-organized smoothly functioningclass environment in which students can take fulladvantage of the instructional program and availableresource materials.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work cooperatively with the classroom teacher in theimplementation ofthe instructional program.
- Work to help children develop positive feelings about themselves and school.
- Serve as model in developing childrens languageand behavior.
- Assist in preparing for instruction by collecting and arrangingresource materialspreparing visual and other teaching aidsarranging field trips etc.
- Assist instruction by operating supportive equipment directinggames andsinging reading and telling stories supervisingtesting and make-up work andassisting on field trips.
- Assist in supervising such activities as playground fire drillslunchroom fieldtrips bus loading and individual or small groupactivities snack toilet andclothing routines.
- Assist in interpreting the school program to parents and staff.
- Participate in home visits and parent conferences with theclassroom teacheronly if it is deemed necessary and upon approval of the Principal.
- Participate in the staff meetings at the school during the dutyday whenpossible.
- Provide instructional support by maintaining records preparingreports scoringobjective tests processing and distributingbooks and supplies collectingmoney and cleaning andstoring materials.
- Assist a substitute teacher in the same manner that the regularteacher wouldbe assisted.
- Maintain professional competence through in-service educationactivitiesand/or self-selected professional growth activities.
- Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as theprincipal mayassign fromtime to time.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Days for work calendar - 173
EVALUATION:Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the
provisions of the Board/Superintendents policy on evaluation of employees.
