Role Overview Following a major state-level departmental restructure we are seeking a Senior Database Administrator to join our Office of Technology. This critical role supports a large-scale migration and modernization effort moving over 100 applications and their associated data into a newly established environment.
You will be a key member of the infrastructure team responsible for planning and executing the transition of databases from legacy systems to modern platforms (including commercial cloud and state data centers) while maintaining strict data integrity and security.
Key Responsibilities -
Migration Strategy: Assess existing databases for migration readiness and execute strategies for moving on-premises databases to cloud environments.

Database Administration: Configure and maintain SQL Server environments performing schema conversions and data transformations.

Performance Optimization: Optimize database performance during and after migration to ensure institutional efficiency.

Security & Compliance: Implement encryption manage roles/permissions and ensure all data practices comply with state and federal security standards.

Collaboration: Work closely with application developers and business units to minimize downtime and ensure system compatibility during the transition.
Required Skills & Qualifications -
Experience: 5 years of dedicated experience as a Senior SQL Server DBA.

Migration Expertise: At least 1 year of experience specifically migrating application databases between versions and platforms.

Core DBA Functions: 5 years of experience in Backup/Restore operations.

Technical Proficiency: Strong command of T-SQL and experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).

Security Management: Proven experience managing database roles permissions and encryption.

Education: Bachelors degree in Computer Science or a related field (relevant experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis).
Preferred Skills -
Implementation of Transparent Data Encryption (TDE).

Proficiency in PowerShell for automation.

Strong understanding of Database Design and Normalization.
