Job Summary

Classification Title:	Health Information Specialist
Classification Minimum Requirements:	Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT); or a high school diploma or equivalent and three years of relevant experience. Appropriate college course work or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
Job Description:	The College of Dentistry is seeking a Health Information Specialist to manage the lifecycle of dental records from active maintenance through secure retention and disposal of inactive files. Creating duplicate records for various purposes (continued care insurance processing legal issues and personal reasons).Fulfilling record requests and ensuring compliance via mail fax and email Answering the telephone in Dental Records addressing issues from patients and staff members. Operating the switchboard as needed to route calls to the appropriate clinics or departments Staffing the Patient Services desk (as needed) registering new patients and checking in returning patients. Additional duties as assigned.

Preferred:	Experience using Outlook and axiUm (or a similar system) Familiarity with Excel Word and GlobalSCAPE Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) a plus Computer skills Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently orally electronically and in writing with prospective patients and co-workers. Ability to climb reaching above shoulder height kneeling bending and repetitivepushing or pulling.
