Job Summary
AAAS has an exciting opportunity for a paid intern to join our Research & Data Analytics (RDA) Department this summer! Under the supervision of the Director of Data Strategy and Quality the Intern will have the opportunity to support real-world survey and data projects in a hybrid team environment.
The priority project for the RDA Intern is to update field analyze and report on an internal employee survey assessing data culture at AAAS. The Intern may also assist with managing the data submission process for the 2027 Inclusivity for Excellence (IE) Report to include tracking reviewing and preparing data files collected across the organization. The Intern will also have the opportunity to learn about the new AWS ETL Platform AAAS recently implemented.

What youll do
- Designing/editing and fielding an online survey
- Analyzing data in Power BI (comparing against previous survey results)
- Reporting out survey results to the RDA and IT teams
- Tracking reviewing and preparing data files for the IE Report
- Support projects using the new AWS ETL Platform
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum requirements
- Currently enrolled in a university or college program at the undergraduate graduate or PhD level. Recent graduates in the past year may be considered.
- Coursework in social science data science business administration mathematics or statistics.
- Familiar with any online survey tool (e.g. Survey Monkey or Alchemer).
- Exposure to statistical software and/or programming languages (e.g. R SPSS Python)
- Comfortable with Excel and PowerPoint (or Canva).
- Exposure to data visualization software (e.g. Power BI or Google Data Studio) a plus.
- Familiarity with other data management tools (e.g. SQL or PySpark) a plus.
- Detail-oriented
- Organized
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Comfortable with both collaborative and independent work
Internship Details
This internship will be expected to come into the D.C. office 1-2 times a week on a hybrid-work basis. This is a 12-week internship which will run fromâJune 1 2026 - August 21 2026. The anticipated initial rate of compensation for this position isâ$17.95 per hour.
