Job Summary

Job Title: Cardiac Catheterization Lab Manager

Location: Johnson County Hospital Tecumseh NE

Department: Operating Room

Reports To: Chief Nursing Officer


Position Summary:

The CCL Manager plans and implements the policies procedures and services of the CCL ensuring delivery of quality care to each patient. Ensures efficient and effective lab operations including quality control and compliance with regulations. Effectively utilizes CCL staff and resources to achieve maximum productivity and quality patient care. Consults with staff physicians and CNO on nursing issues and interpretation of hospital policies to ensure patient needs are met. Maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in QI activities. Participates in the departments planning revenue analysis budgeting education/competency and human resources activities.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ensures that all exams are performed on a timely basis and updated prior to submission while maintaining all quality standards.
  • Coordinates the effective utilization of available equipment resources by appropriate scheduling and planning.
  • Ensures that all equipment operates according to safety standards and that all staff are fully competent in the proper operations of all equipment.
  • Regularly checks the quality of exams performed by staff to ensure that all appropriate standards are being met and are within their defined scope of practice.
  • Regularly ensures that complete satisfaction is being received by patients physicians and all other identified customers.
  • Demonstrates the ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of the patient needs.
  • Ensures that all requisitions are accurate and contain appropriate clinical data and that all appropriate entries are made upon exam completion.
  • Reports monthly on budget variances including probable cause and possible corrective action.
  • Ensures data for CQI studies are up-to-date and submitted timely.
  • Ensures time sheets are accurately completed as required. Holds staff accountable for reporting to work on time.
  • Practices radiation safety measures according to policy and ensures compliance throughout the division.
  • Immediately notifies Senior Leader and Risk Manager of unanticipated outcomes within the department to include but not limited to: Sentinel events Near misses and potential risk-related issues.
  • Is a visible patient safety champion engages co-workers in safety activities.
  • Engages co-workers in improvements in patient care by implementing/sustaining a shared governance model.
  • Employee Engagement scores reflect consistent improvements (or maintains high scores) reflecting an engaged workforce.
  • Responsible to utilizing the Institute of Medicines 6 Quality Aims as an organized approach to creating service excellence in care/service (Safe Timely Efficient Effective Equitable and Patient Centered).
  • Completes annual performance reviews and submits for approval on or before effective date.
  • Counsels employees verbally and/or in writing when appropriate according to WNH policies.
  • Coordinates professional continuing education for staff and seeks effective means of achieving minimum requirements.
  • Ensures that all department employees attend appropriate in-services such as BLS ACLS radiation safety infection control and safety.
  • Completes departmental orientation on all new employees.
  • Demonstrates effective unit management.
  • Works with Senior Leader in the establishment of capital and operations budget.
  • Regularly monitors departmental performance and makes recommendations for improvement and/or corrections to Senior Leader.
  • Attends all assigned meetings.
  • Participates in QI activities by developing and monitoring departmental studies and by actively working on teams throughout the hospital.
  • Actively enhances professional growth by attending hospital sponsored management functions as well as professional meetings.
  • Effectively provides vision and mission to co-workers and inspires team to achieve excellence.
  • Treats patient and families with respect and dignity.
  • Consults other departments as appropriate to provide collaborative patient care and performance improvement activities.
  • Helps with orientation and in-service training for the hospital staff members participates in guidance and education programs.
  • Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Professional Requirements:

  • Maintains regulatory requirements including all state federal and CMS regulations.
  • Maintains and ensures patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians departments and staff.
  • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
  • Communicates appropriately and clearly to physicians staff administration patients and visitors.
  • Resolves personnel concerns at the department level utilizing the grievance process a required.
  • Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding department operations fire safety infection control and radiation safety.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time.
  • Takes call as scheduled and responds within 30-minute call window.
  • Consistently completes and maintains assigned duties.
  • Wears identification while on duty; uses computerized time system correctly.
  • Attends annual review and department in-services as scheduled.
  • Attends staff meetings reads all staff meeting minutes if absent from meeting.
  • Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (QI) activities.
  • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
  • Communicates the mission vision core values ethics and goals of the hospital.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of disaster and emergency policies and procedures.
  • Ensures policies are up-to-date evidence based and staff are trained according to policy.
  • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.

Physical Requirements:

Works inside. May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases exposed to hazardous cleaning agents body fluids and waste occasional exposure to an unpleasant patient or unit elements. Exerting 20-50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10-25 pounds of force frequently and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly. These are baseline requirements for adequate performance of this job. Employees may be required to exceed these levels. Job duties are based on an average 8- 10- & 12-hour shift.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Ability to read and write effectively in English
  • Strong written and verbal skills
  • Strong computer knowledge
  • Current Registered Nurse licensure in Nebraska or Current Radiology Technologist licensure in Nebraska
  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Current ARRT
  • Current BLS and ACLS
  • Available to fulfill on-call obligations (response in 30 minutes or less)
  • Demonstrates clinical competence in basic cardiac physiology/pathology 12-lead EKG interpretation; physiological monitoring (intra cardiac pressure waveform knowledge) pacemaker operations (implantable and external) and other equipment related to cardiac care
  • Preferred Registered Cardiovascular Interventional Specialist (RCIS)
  • Preferred at least 2 years Cath Lab experience
  • Preferred at least 2 years Supervisory experience
