Job Summary

Parks Regional Managers (Commissioned) plan organize and manage the overall operation of the State parks within an assigned geographical region to provide for park operation maintenance interpretation and visitor services and protection; ensure proper recreation management principles are utilized in the delivery of parks and recreation services and the operation of park resources and facilities in accordance with established guidelines.

Essential Qualifications

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with a major or minor in park management park interpretation outdoor recreation management natural science criminal justice business or public administration or related field and three years of experience in managing the personnel budget and resources of a complex park public entity or business with multiple diversified facilities activities and services offered. Management experience must have included developing and monitoring budgets supervising facility maintenance maintaining security of establishments and facilities and providing various services to the public; OR two years of experience as a Park Supervisor III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Job Duties

This is a key leadership position based in Fallon Nevada. This position oversees the operations of 8 State Parks located in Western Nevada. The incumbent is responsible for budget preparation and expenditure maintenance personnel visitor services planning and resource management. Frequent statewide travel for inspections to provide assistance and attend meetings is required. The incumbent provides resource management recreation public education and administrative expertise to ensure efficient management of multiple park operations ecosystems and budget.

Parks Regional Managers make decisions regarding resources training facility maintenance equipment and materials. The position provides guidance and development to staff. The incumbent works with staff other agencies and private groups to develop interpretive programming and activities that encourage greater participation by children and families. This position is subject to call-back will be required to work various hours and shifts including weekends and holidays and travel throughout the State as required. Although not a primary function the incumbent must obtain a valid Nevada peace officer certificate within 18 months of appointment as a condition of employment.

As a state park peace officer incumbents write citations investigate accidents and incidents resolve disputes keep peace and respond to emergency situations as required. The incumbent is required to complete annual law enforcement trainings. The physical agility exam consists of: a) Vertical jump of no less than 14 inches; b) The Illinois Agility Run in 19.5 seconds or less; c) complete not less than 30 sit-ups in 1 minute; d) complete not less than 23 consecutive push-ups; e) 300 meter run in 68 seconds or less; f) 1.5 mile run/walk in 16 minutes and 57 seconds or less; g) lift and carry a 70-90 pound bag of cement/sand from the ground and carry 10 feet to tailgate of a standard pick-up truck and then return repeated three times; h) 100 yard swim in 5 minutes. Park residency is not available at this location.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Working knowledge of: accounting and budgeting principles and practices; management principles practices and programs; building grounds and equipment maintenance; principles of training and supervision; law enforcement rules regulations and procedures applicable to State park operations; emergency medical procedures and equipment; modern methods and equipment used to preserve the peace and enforce the law; purchasing and inventory control procedures.

Ability to: plan implement and coordinate projects and programs in a geographical region; develop and manage training programs including identifying needs and coordinating and evaluating instruction; analyze financial and statistical data to identify trends and determine appropriate courses of action; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; oversee the collection and auditing of revenue; comprehend and administer contracts such as leases or managerial agreements; develop safety programs as appropriate to protect lives and property and minimize liability; manage special events and programs within a region; develop plans in accordance with goals and objectives; promote the park system to groups and individuals including the media; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.
