Position Summary:

The Early Childhood Dual Language Teacher (ECDLT) will provide all students with appropriate learning activities in core academic subject areas designed to fulfill their maximum potential for intellectual emotional physical and social growth. The ECDLT will provide core content instruction in both English and Spanish to enable students to develop linguistic and academic competencies that will prepare them for success.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the districts curriculum program and the dual language program
  • Present subject matter according to the guidelines established by the dual language program the OSDE board policies and administrative regulations
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing in both languages of instruction
  • Analyze performance data in order to provide targeted instruction based upon students individual academic and linguistic needs
  • Model and explicitly teach students how to manage their own learning by identifying evaluating and organizing options opportunities and experiences
  • Work with teachers of diverse learners to modify instruction as needed to ensure success for all students
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to determine instructional goals objectives and methods according to site/district requirements
  • Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical social and emotional development of all students
  • Create shared norms of high expectations and supportive systems as part of a safe respectful and productive learning environment and manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and the WHPS Student and Parent Handbook
  • Recognize value and respect the broad spectrum of languages cultures and ethnicities and teach students to collaborate effectively with individuals from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds
  • Act as a positive role model for students and support the mission of the Western Heights Public School District
  • Performs all other duties as assigned

Physical/Mental Requirements and Working Conditions:

In a typical work day employee must be able to sit stand and walk for 8 hours. Job requires occasional bending/stooping squatting/crouching crawling/kneeling reaching above the shoulder and pushing/pulling. Job requires occasional carrying/lifting up to 15 pounds and occasionally moving tables and boxes of written materials or paper.

Job requires employee to use both hands for repetitive actions involving simple/firm grasping and fine manipulation. Employee must possess manual dexterity and visual ability to read write type operate a computer and to supervise. Employee must posses hearing and speaking abilities to communicate in person and on the phone both individually and with groups of students staff parents and community members. Employee must have mobility enough to monitor areas of the building and grounds if necessary and attend meetings outside the building. Employee must have mental ability to communicate with students staff parents community and supervisors and be able to think critically and make important decisions under stress.

Job could require working outdoors if supervising or monitoring: use of and proximity to office equipment and occasional contact with violent or disruptive students patrons or staff.
