The City of Mission is seeking a Pipelayer to join our Engineering & Public Works team. This position performs semi-skilled and skilled work related to the installation operation maintenance and repair of municipal water sanitary and storm utility systems primarily focused on standard residential services.
Duties include installing and repairing water sanitary and storm services maintaining manholes catch basins fire hydrants and meters drilling and tapping mains for service connections completing minor cement work and preparing surfaces for finishing work such as asphalt or concrete. The successful candidate will also be responsible for site safety and clean-up operating tools and equipment and maintaining accurate operational and as constructed records. Support tasks such as flagging and forklift operation may also be required.
Qualifications :
The ideal candidate will have strong working knowledge of municipal utility maintenance practices and applicable Occupational Health & Safety regulations. They must be able to work in wet dirty and confined environments including exposure to odours fumes and gases in areas such as manholes culverts and pump stations. This role requires physical strength stamina and coordination to perform heavy manual work outdoors in all weather conditions as well as the ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with others.
You will be a high school graduate (or equivalent) and you also have post-secondary technical training related to this type of work and a minimum of two years experience in all aspects of municipal or civil pipelaying work or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
You will have completed Water Distribution System Operator Level 1 and Wastewater Collection System Operation Level 1 as per the BC Environmental Operators Certification program. You will have knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the work as it relates to current codes and standards. You must have your Traffic Control Person certification and a valid BC drivers license for the equipment operated. A valid forklift operators certificate would be an asset.
Additional Information :
The 2025 rate of pay for this CUPE position is $35.24 per hour plus full benefits including pension upon completion of probation. The hours of work are 7:30 am to 5:00 pm (nine-hour shifts; 72 hours bi-weekly) on the Monday to Thursday shift.
