Job Summary

Introduction:

The Engineering Department (EN) provides CERN with the Engineering expertise Infrastructure Systems and Technical Coordination necessary for the design installation operation maintenance and dismantling phases of the CERN accelerator complex and its experimental facilities.  

The position is within the Handling Engineering Group (EN-HE) responsible for preparing organising and coordinating all transport and handling operations for the CERN accelerators and experiments. The Group also manages the transport of thousands of conventional and unconventional items chemical and radioactive products each year. 

As an Electromechanical Technician in EN-HE you will be part of the Handling Equipment Maintenance (EN-HE-HEM) Section which manages and maintains all the industrial transport handling and lifting equipment including more than 120 lifts to ensure the reliable performance all along its lifecycle. More precisely you will join a team of 10 people in charge of the installation and maintenance of lifting and handling equipment at CERN in particular lifts and Electric Overhead Traveling (EOT) cranes.

Functions:

  • Provide input for design and draft technical specifications for lifts.
  • Contribute to defining optimised maintenance plans and give input for the consolidation program of the lift park.
  • Plan and organise the installation of lifts in collaboration with the services concerned.
  • Supervise contractors activities on site ensuring Safety during the work execution.
  • Elaborate relevant documentation and keep the installation files up-to-date (technical files equipment lists etc.).
  • Use Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) to monitor the equipment performance and follow up on maintenance.
  • Place orders according to the existing contracts for supply and maintenance.

Qualifications :

Technical certificate or general secondary education or equivalent relevant experience in the field of Mechanics or Electromecanics or a related field.

Experience:

  • Extensive experience in the installation and commissioning of a wide range of goods and passenger lifts more specifically in the installation of long-traveling lifts.
  • Proven experience in the on-site supervision of contracts (installation and maintenance) of lifting and handling equipment.
  • Proven experience in the use of CMM Systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in electrical and control systems would be an asset.

Technical competencies:

  • Installation and commissioning of lifting and handling equipment.
  • Operation and maintenance of lifting and handling equipment.
  • Knowledge of CMM systems.
  • Knowledge of Control systems (preferably Siemens Schneider) would be an asset.

Employment Conditions:

Contract type: Limited duration contract (5 years). Subject to certain conditions holders of limited-duration contracts may apply for an indefinite position.

Working Hours: 40 hours per week

This position involves:

  • Work in Radiation Areas.
  • Interventions in underground installations.
  • A valid driving licence.
  • Work during nights Sundays and official holidays when required by the needs of the Organization.
  • Shift work when required by the needs of the Organization.
  • Stand-by duty when required by the needs of the Organization.
  • Exposure to risk of falling from heights during scaffolding assembly and dismantling operations
  • Given the occupational health risks associated with this position the selected candidate must obtain medical clearance before a contract offer is confirmed.
