Job Description: Applied Materials is seeking an experienced creative and energetic team player to support commercial and technology transactions for our Chief Technology Officers group which conducts leading edge research and develops novel applications of Applied technology incubating new businesses in adjacent markets. This person should be comfortable interacting with business executives product and development teams our sales force and our customers. Participating in internal projects designed to drive continuous process improvement and technology adoption is a critical aspect of the role. This Director level position will report to a Managing Director in the Legal and Compliance Organization.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing business and legal advice to our growth businesses.
- Reviewing drafting and negotiating a broad range of tech transactions and other commercial and IP agreements to achieve desired business objectives.
- Counseling business/sales team and other stakeholders regarding contract provisions and implications and assessing and mitigating legal/business risks (e.g. indemnifications liability).
- Partnering effectively with other groups in the Law and Compliance department to deliver effective and comprehensive legal support to business stakeholders.
- Actively participating in process and technology projects designed to improve service and efficiency within the Law and Compliance department.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited and recognized law school.
- 7-10 years of legal experience with a focus on commercial and technology transactions.
- Deep understanding of contract terms relating to creation and allocation of intellectual property and licensing.
- Excellent negotiation skills including first-hand experience leading negotiations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills necessary to support a global business.
- Ability to spot compliance and regulatory implications of new businesses.
- Ability to work collaboratively across organizational boundaries and with a diverse group of colleagues in multiple countries.
- Flexible working hours to support clients outside North America.
- Ability to travel (up to 5% of time).
- Licensed to practice law in California.
Preferred Qualifications Skills and Attributes:
- Experience in cutting edge computing technologies such as AI and quantum computing.
- Experience in memory and logic components contracts.
- Experience in financing investment and M&A transactions.
- Work experience in law firm and/or in-house corporate legal departments.
- Experience with contract lifecycle management systems.
- Interest in technology implementation and adoption in the workplace.
- Understand how to translate business needs into contract language and creatively resolve business issues.
- Passionate proactive highly motivated self-starter.
- Excellent organizational skills including attention to detail and ability to create specific action plans based on general guidance and deliver results.
- Ability to see the big picture and identify and design-out problems from the outset; continuous improvement mindset.

NoThe salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location hire grade job-related knowledge skills experience and with consideration of internal equity of our current team addition to a comprehensive benefits package candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program as applicable.
For all sales roles the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
