Job Purpose

As a Plant Operative at our Air Street facility youll play a key role in the safe and efficient running of our process operations. Youll be responsible for monitoring plant performance transferring and testing materials and ensuring that all activities meet strict safety environmental and regulatory standards. This is a handson operational role where your attention to detail technical ability and commitment to safe working practices will help keep our plant running smoothly. Main Tasks and Responsibilities

Plant/mechanical operations

  • Operates and monitors the performance of the Air Street process in accordance with training and procedures
  • Records data concerning plant operations
  • Transfers liquid product through the process and to and from storage tanks
  • Involvement in the start-up and shut down of the plant and process operations
  • Use of computerised process control and tank monitoring systems
  • Start up running and shut down of the boiler

Vehicle movements

  • Taking samples from vehicles and delivery of samples to the laboratory
  • Checking pipework and valves to ensure material is delivered into the correct tank
  • Loading and unloading of product to and from vehicles
  • Acceptance of chemical deliveries and offloading
  • Completion of regulatory paperwork relating to waste and product transfers

Laboratory operations

  • Taking in-process samples and testing them at approved intervals using the appropriate test methods
  • Recording the test results in a retrievable form
  • Using the in-process test data to adjust the process within defined limits as necessary

General

  • Ensure work area is kept clean and tidy and free of chemical spills
  • Work safely in accordance with the companies Health and Safety Policy and written procedures safe systems of work
  • Report any plant defects or incidents as required by site reporting procedures
  • Be aware of the environmental impact of activities and report issues as appropriate
  • To contribute towards the achievement of compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements
  • Be aware of their responsibilities within the Site Emergency Procedure as authorised deputy to the Site Incident Controller and Fire Marshal
  • Awareness of external and internal environmental requirements including Environment Agency site permitting and industry specific guidance

Skills & Key Requirements

Qualifications / Certificates / Education:

  • Good literacy and numeracy preferably with GCSE level in maths English and Science subject
  • Vocational Plant Process qualifications such as a work based NVQ would be preferred

Skills:

  • Ability to work in a technical capacity as part of a multi-discipline process team;
  • Have proven computer competency skills;
  • Performs a high quality of work and applies attention to detail;
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Forklift Licence (preferred)

Experience:

  • Process operator experience preferably in the Waste Management Chemical or Petrochemical Industry
  • Laboratory experience an advantage



Hours of work

47 hours per week Monday to Thursday:

Shift 1: 05:45am - 18:00pm

Shift 2: 17:45pm - 06:00am

No weekends
