About the Role

BYD Australia is seeking a dynamic and highly skilled Public Relations Specialist to support and strengthen the reputation visibility and media presence of both the BYD and DENZA brands in the Australian market. This position based at BYD Australias head office in Mulgrave and reporting to the Public Relations Director will play an integral role in shaping the voice of the business across traditional and digital media channels. The ideal candidate is an exceptional writer a confident communicator a proactive relationship-builder and someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment. On offer is a Public Relations Specialist position and your day-to-day duties will include but not be limited to:

1) Media Relations

  • Develop and maintain strong positive relationships with automotive lifestyle business and technology media.

  • Coordinate and respond to media enquiries in a timely and professional manner.

  • Arrange and support media interviews briefings and events.

2) Media Materials & Content Creation

  • Write high-quality press releases and assist in the creation of media statements briefing materials Q&As and corporate messaging.

  • Oversee presentation materials and information packs for new model introductions and media events.

  • Ensure all PR content aligns with global brand guidelines and messaging strategies for both BYD and DENZA.

3) Press Fleet Management

  • Oversee the ordering allocation preparation and scheduling of press vehicles.

  • Maintain accurate records of fleet usage and condition and coordinate logistics with internal teams and suppliers.

  • Develop a press fleet loan schedule to be shared with the third party responsible for storing and handing over press vehicles.

4) Social Media

  • Collaborate with Marketing and Digital teams to plan develop and refine social media content aligned with PR messaging and product news.

  • Support reporting on social performance for PR-related content: reach engagement and sentiment (working with digital analytics resources).

5) Media Coverage & Reporting

  • Monitor track and analyse media coverage across all channels including social media platforms.

  • Produce regular reports for internal stakeholders summarising media sentiment in relation to the BYD and DENZA brands as well as evaluations of BYD and DENZA vehicles.

6) Agency & Supplier Coordination

  • Liaise with external PR agencies specialist suppliers photographers videographers and freelance writers.

  • Manage workflow approvals invoicing and briefing documents to support PR initiatives.

7) PR Administration

  • Maintain media contact databases and distribution lists.

  • Assist in managing PR budgets purchase orders and administrative processes.

  • Support broader marketing and communications activities as required.

Key requirements:

  • Qualifications in Public Relations Communications Journalism Marketing or related fields (required).

  • Around 2-5 years of professional experience in PR communications media or related functions.

  • Competency in Microsoft Office and presentation software (e.g. PowerPoint).

  • Strong writing skills with demonstrated experience creating high-quality media materials.

  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with confidence interacting with journalists partners and internal stakeholders.

  • Experience in media relations ideally within the automotive consumer technology or related sectors.

  • Strong understanding of social channel behaviours and best practices (Facebook Instagram LinkedIn YouTube and TikTok desirable).

  • Highly organised detail-oriented and able to manage multiple priorities.

  • Proactive solutions-oriented and comfortable working both independently and collaboratively.

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

  • An understanding of or passion for the automotive industry especially new energy vehicles is advantageous.
