Description of Work

The NC State Highway Patrol is seeking an enthusiastic team member to join our team as an IT Architect-Network Infrastructure. The IT Architect is responsible for the strategic planning architecture design and operational reliability of enterprise-class statewide network and communications systems that support law enforcement and public safety operations.

Management Prefers:

  • Experience designing and managing law enforcement network infrastructure.

  • Expertise with IS-IS (Intermediate System Intermediate System) routing protocol within mission critical telecommunication environments.

  • Strong and demonstrated history with data center architecture and design.

  • Expertise with SPBM (Shortest Path Bridging by MAC) L2 network design/installation/supporting background.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead the architecture engineering deployment and lifecycle management of all NCSHP statewide data communications and network services.

  • Coordinate activities with subordinate staff telecommunications providers equipment vendors and electrical contractors to support new and existing IT systems.

  • Serve as the lead technical authority for network VoIP and IT security teams.

  • Ensure the availability performance and resiliency of the statewide network supporting mission-critical operations.

  • Maintain the integrity and security of data in transit and ensure compliance with CJIS and applicable state and federal standards.

  • Lead long-range strategic planning initiatives related to network expansion systems integration technology refresh cycles and enterprise modernization.

  • Optimize the use of technical and staffing resources to minimize downtime and operational disruption.

  • Independently manage responsibilities with minimal supervision and plan organize and direct the work of others.

  • Manage complex high-impact infrastructure projects involving significant organizational change or emerging technologies.

  • Define project scope establish milestones and ensure successful delivery of project outcomes.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert in enterprise networking identifying emerging technologies and recommending enhancements to improve organizational effectiveness.

  • Analyze recurring technical issues and architect preventative enterprise-level solutions.

  • Design and integrate high-visibility hardware and software solutions with significant organizational impact.

  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with vendors and external partners to enhance the Patrols network capabilities.

Position/Physical Requirements:

Typical work schedule: Monday-Friday; 8:00am-5:00pm

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelors degree in computer science computer engineering or closely related degree from an appropriately accredited institution

AND

six years of progressive experience in all areas of information technology architectural components interfaces and their applications or related work;

OR

Bachelors degree in business administration or closely related degree from an appropriately accredited institution

AND

seven years of progressive experience in all areas of information technology architectural components interfaces and their applications or related work;

OR

an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Veterans and National Guard Preference

Applicants seeking Veterans Preference must attach a DD Form 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty along with the state application.

Applicants seeking National Guard Preference must attach an NGB 23A (RPAS) along with the state application if they are a current member of the NC National Guard in good standing.

Applicants who are former member of either the NC Army National Guard or the NC Air National Guard with honorable discharge and six years of creditable service must attach a copy of the DD 256 or NGB 22 along with the state application.
