The City of Lenexa is currently accepting applications for a full-time Equipment Mechanic I to join our fleet maintenance team. The ideal candidate will be:
Come work in a brand new state-of-the-art and spacious 19300 sq. foot facility that provides greater efficiency to employees for completing their work by providing adequate space for toolboxes and mobile computer technology at their workspaces.
If youre seeking variety in your work you will not be disappointed as the fleet maintenance team maintains and repairs nearly 425 city vehicles (including police and fire vehicles) and more than 250 small engines (weed-eaters mowers and chainsaws). We will provide training to expand your knowledge and help prepare you for ASE certifications and CDL licensing if needed. We operate a body and paint shop for city vehicles and perform towing and recovery services welding and fabrication.

Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the Fleet Supervisor this entry-level position performs semi-skilled and skilled work in the repair and maintenance of the equipment and vehicles in the Citys fleet. Duties include repair and maintenance of small engines to heavy equipment such as trailers spreaders and plows.

Qualifications
Minimum: High school diploma or G.E.D. and two years of mechanical repair and equipment maintenance experience; or Associate degree (or equivalent) completion of related technical trade school program and one year of mechanical repair and equipment maintenance. Required to supply basic hand tools necessary to perform duties effectively.
Environmental and Physical Factors
The majority of work is performed indoors inside of maintenance shop; however some work in extreme weather conditions is required. This position requires the ability to stand constantly; the ability to walk stoop/bend and kneel frequently; the ability to twist climb balance squat crawl and push/pull occasionally; the ability and strength to lift carry and move objects up to 70 lbs.; hear warning alarms radio transmissions etc.; the ability to work safely in hazardous situations; and visual acuity and ability to distinguish colors. Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity must be demonstrated by the ability to operate equipment and tools especially hand power or pneumatic tools in a safe manner.
Compensation and Benefits
Hourly rate of pay per is $25.13 to $29.14 dependent on qualifications and directly related experience. This position will have the opportunity to earn additional pay of $2.00 per hour on top of the base hourly rate of pay during the winter months. This is a full-time hourly non-exempt position.
