Supply Chain Manager

Rail Maintenance Environment Leadership Role

We are seeking an experienced Supply Chain Manager to lead end-to-end procurement inventory warehousing logistics and customer service operations within a safety-critical rail maintenance environment.

Reporting to the Finance Manager this role balances operational excellence with strategic improvement ensuring materials are available safely reliably and cost-effectively to support maintenance overhaul and project delivery.

This is a hands-on leadership role with responsibility for building resilient supply chains driving digital enablement managing supplier performance and embedding continuous improvement across the function.

The Role

You will be responsible for the full supply chain lifecycle from procurement strategy through to logistics execution and internal customer service. Your remit includes inventory optimisation supplier management contract negotiation team leadership compliance and financial oversight.

Key responsibilities include:

Logistics Procurement & Inventory

  • Lead procurement inventory warehousing and logistics operations across domestic and international supply chains

  • Define and manage inventory strategies to ensure optimal stock levels and availability

  • Establish procurement and sourcing strategies that balance quality cost and delivery

  • Oversee transportation systems including compliance with hazardous materials and regulatory requirements

  • Monitor supplier performance and manage contracts agreements and KPIs

  • Develop purchasing forecasts manage inventory valuation and monitor departmental budgets

Leadership & Team Management

  • Provide day-to-day leadership of the procurement team (up to 8 direct reports)

  • Drive performance through coaching mentoring and KPI management

  • Coordinate resources across labour materials tooling and equipment

  • Support workforce planning leave scheduling and capability development

  • Contribute to recruitment promotions and performance management decisions

Supplier & Stakeholder Management

  • Source evaluate and negotiate with suppliers for rotables and consumables

  • Build strong relationships with suppliers contractors and logistics partners

  • Act as a key liaison between Supply Chain Finance Operations Engineering and Projects

  • Deliver high levels of internal customer service and promote a One Team approach

Continuous Improvement & Strategy

  • Identify and implement process improvements digital solutions and system enhancements

  • Drive cost optimisation demand planning and inventory control initiatives

  • Support change management and profit improvement programs

  • Establish best-practice procurement and supply chain frameworks

Safety Quality & Environment

  • Champion a strong safety culture aligned with a Zero Harm philosophy

  • Ensure compliance with all WHS environmental rail safety and quality requirements

  • Conduct risk assessments manage hazards and ensure safe systems of work

  • Promote sustainable and environmentally responsible practices

About You

You are a confident supply chain leader with experience in complex regulated environments such as rail transport infrastructure or heavy industry.

You will bring:

  • Demonstrated supervisory experience leading teams of 5 staff

  • Strong background in procurement logistics inventory and customer service operations

  • Proven ability to implement best-practice supply chain methodologies

  • Tertiary qualification in Supply Chain Logistics Transport or related discipline

  • Highly regarded certifications such as APICS/ASCM (CSCP/CPIM) or CIPS

  • Strong commercial acumen including cost modeling and contract management

  • Proficiency with ERP systems (SAP Oracle Microsoft) WMS/TMS and advanced Excel

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Understanding of rail safety regulations and safety-critical operations

  • Valid C Class DriversLicence and ability to meet rail medical and permit requirements
